Yeah, it's not tropheus. Is this fish new to your tank? Has it always been that dark? It looks pretty stressed to me and might not be showing its normal coloring.

Re: Any ideas??
its a mbuna not sure which one though... but i have one similar... its blue and black though (yours looks like it is as well) and mine does darken to the lvl yours is at.... yours is either very stressed or trying to be very dominate very hard to say... i have a male vic that is very dark and he is the dominate and i think only male in the tank

Definitely mbuna. As Icer said, it's probably stressed. My other guess would be it's a hybrid.

Re: Any ideas??
Well I recieved him from my roommate who got him at Petsmart because he was the only dark one and he liked him.. so me bein the only one with a african tank he gave him to me... he was darker when i got him without hardly any yellow... so i put him in my tank and he got hellza bullies to the point i thought he was gonna die (over night) i isolated him in a breeder net for 2 weeks and then rereleased him free in the tank.. he was way amaciated and u could see his skull bone.. i found the culprit was my Kenyi so i pulled him and this guy began puttin on weight but only got lighter and started showing his barring.. as his fins grew back they became tipped with the Brilliant yellow edges... he still isnt back to full health but he isn't bullied anymore and now he actually does some bullying of his own but no one is ending up beat to hell any more and this is the best i've seen him look since i recieved him as a gift... so hybrid is quite possible but i was hoping tht maybe he wasnt.. or u could maybe give ideas to what he could b a cross of... but his barring usually shows now since i moved my mbuna to a 30 gallon long all at once tht no one had been in.. completely new tank..
Re: Any ideas??
My best guess would be that he has some Pseudotropheus in him. The facial structure, barring and blaze would point in that direction to me. But he's definitely not an sp. Elongatus. In some respects he looks like a crabro, except that they don't have a blaze and his coloring is wrong. I believe there are some blue crabs out there, but I've never seen any in person and they still wouldn't have a yellow blaze like that.
