eh close! i did some research and found out what it was, its an external mini cage/tank that hangs on the outside of the tank. It can be used for breeding or keeping inverts or other small fish that would get eaten by other inhabitants on the main tank. pretty cool, i want one for breeding

It's a breeder box. You pretty much have to have them to keep mbuna fry alive for their first week out of mommy's mouth. I have 2 in my 10g fry tank. The path goes like this:

Mommy's mouth -> tumbler -> breeder box -> fry tank -> grow-out tank -> juvie tank

Eh, these guys are a lot of work! LOL

I don't have that exact model; that's an external unit - I prefer internal so I can get a little better water flow through the box. They're not too expensive but I don't remember exactly how much. I bought one at APFP and the other online from JEHMCO.

cool thanks ill have to keep my eyes open then the nylon breeder nets dont work well with the africans i found out they were even in with other little larger fry and were being eaten through the nylon netting Sad so have been on the hunt for something better than the stupid floating guppy breeder boxes

If I was starting over I might consider a separate 5g or 10g tank just for the 1st week. But I'm not sure... that would require yet another tank transfer.

i think the external ones are great, it doesn't crowd room inside the tank

It's an interesting concept. Do you have one Jtang? I'm wondering how much flow you can get going through it. Also interested in how well it attaches to the main tank when you've got a top on it.
