Hi,

I have a canister Rena Filster XL running on my 75g tank and am wondering if I should add on another HOB filter (thinking of either an Aquaclear 110 or 70). The tank now holds 20 juvie congo tetras and 14 2-2.5" geophagus tapajos orange heads, 2 otos, 1 small clown loach, and 1 female ram. Of course, as the geos grow, I will decrease the number in the tank.

What do you all suggest?

Thanks in advance for your input!

I always have more that one filter on my tanks. On my 56g I run an AC70 HOB and Eheim 2217 canister. On my 210g I have two FX5's. I just like the peace of mind that if one fails the other will most likely keep running to keep the fish alive.

With the 75g you have going, I think I would add the AC110 for good mechanical clean up and ease of clean up compared to a canister.

Rena makes 4 different canister filters,(XP1 XP2 XP3 XP4) which one are you running? And yes, I would add an AC110 also.

Rena recently changed the way they label their models.
XP1 now called S
XP2 now called M
XP3 now called L
XP4 now called XL

So gnats you really have the L model.

That model is a good choice for your 75g. But I really do think that it would be good to add that AC110 to the mix.

On my smaller tanks I run 2 magnum 350 canisters and a emperor 400. I believe in over filtering. My larger tanks get 2 emperor 400's and and 2 fx5's. for some reason I always have to have canister and HOB per tank. I think it's a disorder of some type but ill leave that to the quacks.

AC110's rock! They are quite, easy to clean and super modular regarding media. I like to keep my tanks turning over about 9x an hour through large wet/dry filters. Water is crystal, healthy and fish grow significantly faster. I tend to be a little wet/dry biased Smile

From what I read stay with the old model fx5, fx6 has a lower gph....

I run 2 ac110 on my 90g and looking for the right priced fx5 to double my 240g's filtration and working on custom filter setup for 55g tanks

I have an Eheim 2217, AC 110, and a maxijet 900 powerhead w/sponge prefilter in my 75. This works really well for me.

Please get several more clown loaches.
