HEY DWARF PIKE,
please spawn. I have a male & female. They live in a large LOG together. Hang out together, eat together & stuff. I don't know if they have paired up. Does this sound like they are pairing? What can I do to the conditions of the tank, or what can I feed these type fish to trigger spawning behaviors?

Re: HEY DWARF PIKE,
If they hang out together, that's a really good sign. Even the dwarves generally don't like each other and if adults, rarely stay near each other. Spawns happen so rarely, not a lot is known about triggers. Most common is waiting for a storm front about to hit and do a massive water change. The female will get a pinkish belly when she gets ready, much like female kribs do.

Re: HEY DWARF PIKE,
fishNAbowl, what's the pH of the tank?
Some common triggers of So American species is a change in the pH. Specific levels are not known however, but there's someone on MFK who just got their C. Noto to spawn in a tannin rich tank.
Copious amounts of protein rich foods, and frequent water changes will also help them get frisky.
As dwarfpike mentioned the female will get a swollen pink belly, and they will normally be a pair if they are hanging out in the same shelter together. If they are sticking next to each other at all times, then you most likely got a pair.
Good luck

Re: HEY DWARF PIKE,
My pair laid eggs twice, but were never fertilized by the male.

Re: HEY DWARF PIKE,
Heh, yeah that is me. Dwarfpike didn't sound monster enough and I happen to be watching Empire at the time I was coming up with the handle. Also rather amusing I am playing a Sith Lord on an mmo while typing this out.
These are a white water species, so won't need the tanins per say ... but they still come from very soft water and like many soft water cichlids, sometimes they eggs won't fertilize properly in harder water.

Re: HEY DWARF PIKE,
P.H. is maintained @ 6.5-6.8 using buffers. I can definitely play around with this and do frequent water changes. No tannins in my water but there is heavy leaf coverage. The temp is maintained at 74 deg. I could also bump that up a bit.CMooreCichlids wrote:fishNAbowl, what's the pH of the tank?

The link was cool, thanks for posting it!
I am just glad these 2 are getting along so well. The 1st male I had was lazy. This male is interactive in the tank and with the female.Madness wrote:My pair laid eggs twice, but were never fertilized by the male.

Missed this question, sorry. Cory has some neat things in that caught my interest ... but I doubt funds will be available anytime soon so no immediate plans.

Aquarium Coop has some L. Curvicepts. I picked one up. My 1st dwarf laetacara, has nice blue coloring.

Re: HEY DWARF PIKE,
Yeah, the curviceps were one of the options. They are more mellow than the species I had.

How are they doing? Playing nice with each other and the tetras still?

Re: HEY DWARF PIKE,
All the same. Dwarf pikes own a hollow log. I didn't see the female for a few days and thought she was either protecting eggs or dead. Before she disappeared she seems bloated. So I had fingers crossed. I don't know what's going on in the log. It's a dark place where no one goes, lol.dwarfpike wrote:How are they doing? Playing nice with each other and the tetras still?
How about you? Have you stocked your long tank yet?
