Pike aggression
My pike has been really acting up and aggressive. It is not a variety known to be mean but Im pretty sure it was the fish that tore up the fins on my parrot. So currently it lives with my con in the 29g. Not a long term solution for the pike will get too big. Even though the pike is twice the size of the con, he keeps her in line.
Some strange behavior I noticed with the pike was that she acted like she was mated to the parrot. It started with the small nudges with her mouth you see normally see between mated chiclids with the parrot showing no interest in her. Then I woke one morning to see the parrot with shredded lower fins and torn tail and top fin. It also had become very wary of the pike almost running from it every time it saw it. I also notice a small mark on the side of my sev and witnessed the pike going at the smaller Oscar. I thought I had got one of the more peaceful, community friendly pikes but I guess I either got a mean one or it was because it was a girl.

Re: Pike aggression
I was thinking it was a female related thing. She actually looked very bloated and had a beautiful belly color going for a little while. She may have dropped eggs in the tank and turned nasty. She is a bit thinner and kind of pale looking right now.
Whatever the case the poor parrot is very skittish right now. It was warming up to me quite a bit and then got beat up... by a girl and now has no self worth.

Re: Pike aggression
Nope, too common of a fish. I would rather get a mate for my parrot.

Re: Pike aggression
I almost never see any pikes in any LFS but always see far to many parrots.

Re: Pike aggression
Well this post ends sadly....
The convict killed the pike. She was twice his size and I found her totally beat up and dead. I did not even see the aggression levels at that point. He must have went at her while I was at work. I was going to rehome her.
