Re: Bichir tankmates/72g bowfront ideas
I need some African cichlid advice....
A long time favorite is the Blue Dolphin (cyrtocara moori), Could it be kept solo with no group and then other smaller Africans with it?
I would consider also a syno cat or two in there also.

My experience with african cichlids is mixed. Love the colors but hate the fin nipping. Not sure about a lone blue dolphin with others. I've only ever seen them kept in schools with a high female to male population

Why not an ebjd? I picked up one of Shawn's for my sons tank. It always greats both of us, and has been super friendly with his rainbows and two angel fish ...... Plus it's absolutely beautiful

I had a regular jd for a while but I thought it was pretty shy. I do love the color on the ebjd but I also like the super red sevrums too. I could see a super red sev and some roselines...

Regular jd aren't worth the food people feed them ... Haha. J/k. But I agree that they lack on personality by hiding a lot and then so many of th develop that almost spawning salmon humped back when they reach maturity.
I like your idea of a super red severum. Tons of color ( not sure on the personality though)
Africans are fun to watch like you mentioned in your other thread... I'm not really a fan of any of the fish under the mbuna name.

yeah I hate the Quasimodo thing that happens with a lot of them. The Severum are alright for personality, I had a nice gold for a while. As to the Africans, Im still indecisive but there are a few I like. I am just looking for something different. Even the part of me that screams 'no hybrids!' would maybe consider a solo flowerhorn or a trimac looking flowerhorn. For that matter a real trimac, but they are pretty difficult to find right now.

I dont do hybrids as you all know, but I am seriously thinking of a solo pet of one of these.

I can get srt ( super red Texas) shipped to me overnight right now.... They are only 1.5" at the moment and have only seen pics of the parents, but I'm tempted too

Re: Bichir tankmates/72g bowfront ideas
Problem is that I would want a good chance to get a show quality male out of it and would want at least 3... so $45 and shipping for 1.5" fish.

I think I would rather get some Trimac or Midas from Cichlid of the Americas if I were thinking of spending that much.

You wouldn't mind? I kind of think it might just be the easiest thing to do for a little while.lloyd378 wrote:Or just keep that sweet isletas and grow his hump out!!!! I'll give you some fish he can chase around

I've got a nice butterkoferi and a flowerhorn for him to chase around. He could get a real nice "dominant hump " look to him.
I also have a zonatusXblackbelt you could out in with him too

I don't mind at all! I was just going to grab him for my classroom for next year, but I think you should keep him even more!
Heck, I might even have a female for him too,( not my big nice one but a smaller one I'm growing out about 4.5" and thinking she's a female)

'Heed' does not need any more tank mates, I need to get some of the ones he has out of there.
