Strange Crustacean Scurring in Tank
I'll try to get a photo later, but I noticed this morning an odd looking critter, appears to be a crustacean of some sort, quickly scurrying around the bottom of the tank. It's not a Copepod, though I have those also, it's MUCH bigger. I'd say it's the size of a small piece of aquarium gravel, not sand (I have coarse sand in this tank). Appears to have a clearish shell and two antenna. Doesn't swim, just scoots around on the substrate in the middle of the tank. Thoughts?

Re: Strange Crustacean Scurring in Tank
lol, I know I really need to make that write up, one of these days. I've basically got something going on every weekend for the rest of the year.
Anyway, I've tried to get pics put they're small and fast. Looks like a pond snail? But they can swim. I only see them every so often, but I'll try to get some video next time I see them.

How they're beneficial to your tank than being pests or harmful to your tank.

It could be! Hey anderson_p_r, does this mystery crustacean happen live in a pineapple under the sea?

I don't think it's that, it looks like a small clearish snail that can swim as fast as a shrimp. I'll try to get some video.

0.o reminds me of a sand flea from the beach the ones you accidentally dig up and seem huge for a flea. But those are ocean dwelling not FW

That seems big for an ostracod. Clam shrimp maybe?
Could we get a higher resolution video?

Re: Strange Crustacean Scurring in Tank
Sorry, that's the best my little camera can do. I see them so rarely it's difficult enough to capture even a picture, let alone HD video

Re: Strange Crustacean Scurring in Tank
Well, I had to ask It looks to be about the size of a skud, but it doesn't look like a skud. Clam shrimp is still my best guess. Regardless, it's neat; I wish I had some in my tanks!
