Those Africans aren't demasoni. They look more like Metriaclima lombardoi (Kenyi) or like they have Kenyi in them. They grow much larger than demasoni and are very aggressive. Males will turn an orange-ish color when they mature.

Re: my preety feeder breeder tank
you have new world cichlids with old world cichlids???? (african rift lake, and americans) what are you water parameters?? one of thoughs species are not happy in that water.... but I am assuming you dont care about thoughs fish, they're just feeders right??
Yep, I agree with betty... I used to have a tank with kenyi in them. but I think demasoni are more aggressive than kenyi, itleast thats how it was in my tank. maybe cause they were older, or about to spawn????

Re: my preety feeder breeder tank
the cons were put in there with them as a qt because i dont have the other qt tank set up i will have them in here for a week or 2 untill i know im not gonna get any diseases spread then set them up.and yes i am using the affies as feeders so no i dont care about parameters just that they are disease free and well fed they all came from the same tank and sadly have lived there since they all were born in a 45 gallon talll with a 15 gallon filter and 15 other various cichlids purchased from other keepers witch angers me your guys arent asking about peoples setups.before u sell all those fish will be eaten in 2 or 3 months or sooner ill prob give some away the cons will be the only thing i care about keeping.sorry if u guys dont like the mix but they are better than goldfish

Re: my preety feeder breeder tank
its not that I dont like the mix.... people can mix whatever they want, Ive seen jewel cichlids (african river) with mbuna and other african rift lake fish, I think that is how petco and petsmart have them too.... there was a guy on here that had a red eared slider turtle with his african cichlids, that I didnt like too much, turtles just create too much waste....
I still didnt get a answer to what your water parameters are?? Im curious because Ive seen a few people that acclimate there rift lake cichlids to the PH that comes out of there tap (7.2).... so if your one of thoughs people then your africans shouldnt have a problem being with new world or any lower PH fish.... I personally try to mimic the water the species comes from, this way I get better and more frequent breeding, and my fish always seem to be more active and happy.
Wasnt trying to give you a hard time... just was making sure you knew what you were doing.

Re: my preety feeder breeder tank
i keep it at 7.8 for the affies is this ok i know cons adapt to almost anything.i know you are only interested in the well being of the fish not to disrespect me.and a RES with anything other than koi in a pond is terrible mine is a poop monster i keep him filtered with a powerhead and frequent water changes his name is elvis and hes about 8 years old

Re: my preety feeder breeder tank
ok, see.. Your smart enough not too mix turtles and cichlids, your good in my book!! lol..... anyway.... 7.8 is pretty close to where the africans like it.... there 8.2-8.6..... so .4 off should be fine, I know mine drops down that low sometimes...... if you were down around 6.5, then it would be too acidic for the little guys in my book... but again, I know guys that acclimate them to live in pretty acidic water. So just depends who you talk to.
Convicts could probably live in poopy turtle water and live.... lol There the hardiest fish ive ever seen!
well besides the con being in there, I really like the setup.... fish all look happy, I dig the cave/rock formations and the pot.... good job.
