Madness's "kids" in my tank!
Its happened, Madness now has his "kids" in my tank!
Here are a few quick, blurry shots:
A tank shot - they are hungry!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Now my favorite, the hoga
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Here is the bocourti
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The Lyonsi
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
One of the red devils
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The synspilum
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
looks like a showdown but its not.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
One of the zonatus
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A couple of fish that are not from madness:
The new pleco from Zerc, under the red devil from madness
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
My favorite red hook silver dollar. The only one with the freckles.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
While I'm at it here is my convict in the 29g. He will never sit still, so he got named Spaz
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I rushed to take pics before work so not the best but you get the idea. Madness's "kids" are running wild in my home!
I missed a few like the other zonatus and red devil but they were being uncooperative brats!

Thanks!
So far they get along pretty well. I can see aggression starting in the red devils. In the grand scheme of things I see both devils and a zonatus going away. I will let them grow out for just a bit longer before I make any changes.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
The only ones looking a little haggard are the zo's. The one that I just got from you looks like he bashed his nose a little in the move. But he is doing great eating like a champ the other has a bit more blue coloring but is very shy and not eating like the rest.
The bocourti and synspilum are starting to color up nicely. They seem to be settling in and eating better. Seems like three weeks has been the magic amount of time for most cichlids to get somewhat comfortable with their new surroundings. Seemed to notice the same when I had the argentea and pearsei.
The shocker was the lyonsi, he is the smallest of all the fish but he kind of muscled his way in and is eating and interacting well. At fist glance looks like a hoga.
Thanks again madness for the "kids". Between fishman and myself you will get to see what the kids turn out like as adults.

The orange and white combo seemed to be a small percentage of the batch from madness, the majority were all orange. Could all change with time, but these devils were very nice looking.

Nope. same batch. He feeds a lot and performs a lot of water changes. He is about 5+". So yours and Fishman should sprout soon. This guy looked like yours when he bought them. He bought 5 and he kept this one and gave the others to APFP. The largest one he took to APFP was 3".

Your RD still has the cool pattern.
Probably will not matter in my case anyway, these guys seem to be the aggressors so most likely will go.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
Things in my tank are going to change. The hoga easily eats twice the amount as the devil. He will out outgrow the devil quickly. So we will see how he does when he is larger. My hoga gets along with just about everyone but has a little issue with both the zo.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
madness,
Had to follow up on the zo's. The one from your pair is doing awesome, eats like a and is starting to get really comfortable in the tank. Still does not have the color of the other one. The other smaller zo (from gauge?) is totally lame, does not come out and hides in the upper corners a lot.
Interesting difference in the fish. Just passing it along. Yes your fish rock

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
i have one of madness's zonatus thats a little stud. put him in the tank a month ago and he was the lowest on the pecking order but really keeps to himself and has put on about an inch. oddly the most aggressive for no reason fish in my tank is the synispilum. he seems to have an aread that hes constantly sifting through and seems to go crazy sometimes if anybody intrudes.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
My synspilum is kind of shy but because he is the biggest (just by a hair) everyone gives him space. The red devil does not even mess with him. He seems to be the gentle like the bocoutri.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
its funny the veija species tend to keep to themselves in my tank. they keep to themselves so everyone seems to leave them alone. the aggression level in my tank is very low but theres still ripped fins every once in a while but hardly ever to the syn or zo

Naw he actually didn't lose anything. I wanted ones that looked as plain as can be. The others I kept with pattern still look good. I will try and post a few better pics here soon. Just a bit busy with work these days.

I thought the same thing between my hoga's and devil's then out of nowhere the devil overtook everyone for the lead. Now he just hoover vacs anything edible that nears him.
Pics of Madness's offspring. I got all these guys around an inch big.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
Very nice looking. The hoga had an interesting color change.
I will not need to worry about the red devils in the tank anymore. One died and the other I put down due to illness. I think I may have some remnants of a bacterial infection in my tank. My hoga seems to be doing fine. Great personality and seems to get along with everyone very nicely, so far...

Very nice. That Hoga that is now orange, I really hope is a Hoga, (and not just a very late peeling devil) cause if it is in fact a Hoga. I cant wait to see what it turns out like.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
The small zo was really looking bad, skinny and not eating. The small red devil too was acting strange and not eating. I didnt want to give up on them but I thought it better to remove the sick.
The bocourti still worries me because it too just does not want to eat. But I am giving it a chance because it is not acting totally weird. Whatever issues had hit my tank, the lack of appetite was the first symptom. I am not seeing anything else, no fuzz or issues on the body and no stringy white poo. I hope this is not another round of illness but just a few stressed fish that succumbed.
I dont know if my silver dollars can be "carriers" and infect others. Maybe the issue was that I should have bleached everything including the gravel. I did not do a 100% disinfection of everything so some remnants of the bacteria could have survived.

Was the hoga always lighter colored? Mine is a lot darker. Then again I also have a darker gravel. Just wondering if mine might lighten up with age.

Re: Madness's "kids" in my tank!
I like the darker color on mine.
But I notice that on the full grown fish it seems the color darkens up again. Probably just a phase in their growth, kind of like peeling in the red devils and midas.
