Remove glass lid(s)? Empty Remove glass lid(s)?

I was reading somewhere that removing your glass lid(s) can improve the water parameters and be beneficial to the live plants. Anybody have any input on this?

I would think that the glass might cut down a little light getting in, especially if it is dirty with water spots & salt, but no lid & you are making your heater work harder.
