Scratch removal in glass?
Is there a way to remove scratches in glass aquariums? May need to work on the 150 gallon if there are scratches. Wondering how difficult this would be to do?

Ive read that a fine polish like toothpaste can work. Or you can also try the cleaner/polish that they use on glass stove cook tops. If they are deep scratches than likely not too much can be done. There are some things advertised online... could check them out.

The risk outweighs the rewards, minor scratches can be removed sometimes, deeper ones most times not, and you run the risk of making the glass look worse than the scratch did in the first place. I have found in the last tank I had a 165 bowfront that went to Donna, it was majorly scratched. Adding LED lighting helped dramatically to a point I didn't notice them.

Supposedly if you can't feel the scratch with your fingernail then it can be polished out. But after the time, effort, and money, it's usually cost effective to just buy a new tank or panel.

That's what I was trying to figure out. I really want this 150 because it's free. My boyfriend is pushing for a brand new tank since it's going to be an in wall installation. But a brand new tank is going to cost $600+ and I don't want to spend that much so that I can put more money towards the in wall installation equipment. If I can get a free tank and fix it up a bit it would be better.

Is it a bunch of scratches, or just a few bad ones? Personally, as long as it's not the front panel I'm ok with a few scratches. Are all the panels scratched?

I haven't got to see it in person yet. From what I can see in the pics it looks pretty good actually. It has filled with rain water from being outside and is full of algae now so it could deter from the actual representation. I'll upload pics in a min.

Nice sized tank for sure. Looks to have nice thick glass with no visible chips on the corners. It seems to be holding water well.

Other then being green it looks pretty good. One thing I didn't see is Algae seems to grow in scratches first, and you should see dark lines where the scratches would be. Hard to tell from the angles but I really didn't see anything terrible, least it looks like it doesn't leak

lol That's what we were joking about. I really need to just go look at it and hopefully prove wrong that it is worth it. I thought the same thing about scratches and algae growing in there and being able to see them.

It is worth it. Even if you dont use it, the resale value would be worth something decent.

That's what I was thinking. Either way I think I should get it. He just wants it gone, and this week. I could buy a light, clean it up and sell it for a little more and still make money on it.

Once you empty it and clean it, you will be able to inspect the silicone seals and be able to tell if it worth keeping for yourself or to flip.

haha IF I don't keep it I may just sell it to you. He told me it needed a new top. I was thinking glass lids, come to find out it was a light that I was going to replace anyways!
