Same thing I was thinking.
Re: Anyone bought from African NW?
let me know on how that goes with the licenses you have.. i was going to look into getting a license just to buy from wholesalers. most all the fish from the pet stores down by me is from african nw.. Kinda of a shabby company these days as i was told lot of the veterans down there have left the business. All the fish that come from them into the petco and shi!y mom and pop shops by me or kinda of inferior quality tho.. i see some nice stuff once in a while.. but at wholesale price why not..

In general, there is a contract between stores and wholesalers. They will not sell to the general public as a no competition clause.
Also I'll say that there are minimum orders you have to place with the wholesalers. Also delivery fees.

Re: Anyone bought from African NW?
They are located in the metro area over by you guys why would you need them to deliver.. they have a 10 handling fee if you pick up... wow..lol
Opportunity to still save money is something was organized.. im not sure about the whole contract thing.. I know a store dosent order from them that often..

Re: Anyone bought from African NW?
I can see both sides of this. My dad used to have a wholesale diving accessories business. He not only would not sell to the general public, but you had to have a dive shop storefront to order from him. He would not sell to someone operating a club, or selling out of their garage. Then again, he used his resale license to purchase all kinds of things for personal use - if they would let him.
Everyone wants a good deal - I know I do. It is nice to cut out the middleman, until he goes out of business and there is no one to answer your questions, or no place to get what you need right now, because the wholesaler has minimum orders, doesn't stock everything, etc. Somewhere there is a balance, I'm not sure I've found it yet, but I don't want Walpetsmartco as my only choice. I do support LFSs, but I also buy used and online. Hopefully there is enough to go around even in this tough economy.

Re: Anyone bought from African NW?
ANW requires a credit application, state retail license and a store front address to purchase from them. Not sure if you have to be a LFS to but from them. Long time ago (early 90's) I managed the Amazon Pet Place in downtown Bothell (no longer there)and we regularly purchased fish and supplies from them. I can remember the breeding room they had filled with baby angelfish, convicts, guppies and platies. I thought they we're rather high priced for a wholeseller back then so I wouldn't hold my breath for any super deals. I'm sure Bobby could find us much better deals on fish without the hassle.

true that.
Bobby offers awesome deals on most of his stock, he is a retailer and wholesaler. No licenses needed!
Plus, when i texted him about caring for discuses, he almost immediately answered!

Re: Anyone bought from African NW?
ive bought fish there alot , lol , its my favorite roadtrip store ...lol ...
Re: Anyone bought from African NW?
Are you sure you have bought from them? There wholesale only, unless you have a licensed business that deals with fish they wont sell to you. Also like previous people have said they have a minimum order limit, another reason most people wouldnt be able to buy from them.
