Exchanged ZooMed Nano 501 w/ Finnex PX 360 with slight mod
So, my 9.5 gallon was doing okay but was hard to do maintenance on the canister. The Nano 501 is supposed to be level with the tank. The only space I had and keeping it hidden means it needed to be behind the tank making it difficult to get to. This was no place to spill water since all the electrical cords are behind the stand.
Its a good little filter, rated at a max for 10 gallons I also wanted something a little bigger.

Now I am trying Finnex's PX 360. This canister is rated for up to 20 gallons and can be installed lower than the tank. I had to extend the lines about 6" and also installed ball valves for easier disconnect.

Has a bit more water pressure but the inhabitants seem to be okay. The 501 wasn't putting out the best output for this 2' long tank.

Do you have a picture of where you had the 501 installed at before?

Oh yeah, that's precarious alright. The finnex with the ability to go under the tank should be a big help! Did you ever get to try the breaking the siphon trick I mentioned earlier?

I did, when I disconnected the unit and removed it. Not a drip of water! But like u said it was precarious. Between the air hoses, worrying about knocking into the light and the other stuff back there.
How the new set up is, Ill be disconnecting right from the unit so there wont be hoses whipping around. This with the installation of ball valves and the rubber basket I should be golden with a quick disconnect and no worry spill.

Wish I was able to find quick connects & check valves they would have made disconnecting quicker & cleaner. But didn't find any at the hardware store so I went with the ball valves.MRTom wrote:Hooray for no worry spills! Now if only there was a way to ensure 0 spill like the fluvals do...
