My Emersed Grow Tubs
After much thought, procrastination, "planning", and research, I finally setup some emersed grow tubs about a month ago. I took some photos of them today; so far things are going well and I'm generally pleased with the results, though I'm still tweaking things.
Both tubs are heated to around 80F with some cheapie 25w glass heaters with thermostatic control I bought on ebay. I'm using a small powerhead to circulate water in one of them and an airstone in the other.
The tub with just 6 pots has a 13w 6500K CFL bulb over it (8" shoplight reflector). The bigger tub had (until today) 2 23w 6500K CFL bulbs over it, but I think they've been scorching my plants a bit (overkill! ), so I dropped back to 2 13w CFL bulbs after I shot the photos. The 'petite' anubias and the pennywort took this the worst, I think.
I'm using miracle-gro organic topsoil in most of the pots and I just got some aquasoil amazonia in the mail yesterday which you can see in some of the newer pots. This will save my house from the oven-baked dirt smell and the granules will stay in the pots better (at least at first). The pots themselves are made of coconut fiber.
I'm using some ceramic tiles to elevate the plants a bit in the smaller container to keep the water line well above the heater. I also tossed some alder cones into each one because hey, why not?
In this tub I have:
Saurogyne Repens
Ammannia Gracili
Lysimachia Nummularia ‘Aurea’ (gold creeping jenny)
2 unidentified crypts (thanks to BillHN)

In this tub I have:
Ludwigia repens x arcuata
Ammannia Gracili
Lysimachia Nummularia ‘Aurea’ (gold creeping jenny)
Echinodorus Angustifolia ‘Vesuvius’ (thanks again, BillHN!)
Anubias Barteri var. Nana ‘Petite’ (it's a bit sad at the moment, but it is showing new growth)
Alternathera reineckii ‘cardinalis’
Hydrocotyle Leucocephala (Pennywort)
Unidentified stem plant (next to the creeping jenny - also from BillHN)

I'm adding plants as I get them and I have multiple pots of certain varieties. Since I don't use CO2 in any of my aquaria, this is a chance to grow some of those fantastic plants that won't thrive without it
Thanks for looking!
