Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
I'm curious if anyone here would be interested in coming to a swap meet in Federal Way? We all have ''stuff'' that is laying around and there may be something you want and someone else has and they don't want. And I know some of you recognize that I'm totally into GSAS, but if I organize this IT WILL NOT BE A GSAS FUNCTION AT ALL!
Here's what I'm thinking:
Just wondering if there is any interest. Please let me know. If there is enough interest, I'll get started this week on setting it up.
Ron
Here's what I'm thinking:
- IT IS NOT OPEN TO COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES, ONLY HOBBIESTS. THIS IS A SWAP MEET, NOT A SALES EVENT!
- PROBABLY A SATURDAY OR SUNDAY IN THE FIRST PART OF DECEMBER.
- IT WILL BE HELD IN A PLACE WITH NO COVER CHARGE. MAYBE COFFEE AND DONUTS - AND YOU CAN LEAVE A DONATION TO COVER THAT. I'LL TAKE CARE OF THE ROOM DETAILS.
- NO MONEY WILL EXCHANGE HANDS. ITEMS WILL ONLY BE TRADED.
- THE EVENT WILL LAST FOR A SPECIFIC PERIOD OF TIME TO BE DETERMINED.
- LIVESTOCK AND DRYGOODS CAN BE BARTERED OR TRADED.
- I WILL ASK FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP SET UP THE TABLES AND TAKE THEM DOWN (1/2hr before and after)
Just wondering if there is any interest. Please let me know. If there is enough interest, I'll get started this week on setting it up.

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
I like it. Is there a reason it would just be trading, no cash sales?
Very interested.

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
I don't want to take anything away from our local fish stores. These next few months will be hard on them. And I would just like to see how really just swapping turns out.
A question was bought up on another place where I posed the idea and I was asked if they could set up a small aquarium and bag and trade fish out of it. I will make that one of the questions I will ask of the venue managers.
I'm thinking we'll have it for just about 3 hours max. What do you think?

I like the idea, and I understand the reasoning. I like the idea about trading your live stock, and for it only being for a few hours, it shouldnt stress them out to bad.

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
It does sound interesting.
Might have to have everyone coming post what they are bringing esp. in regard livestock and see what kind of interest is generated ahead of time. Or others could post what they are looking for, that way you dont get the 'this is going to be lame' and have a bunch of no shows.

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
Let me know when and where I would love to come. Also can we bring whole tank systems to trade (not setup of coarse) within reason (nothing over 100g).

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
Naso, I'm working on getting the venue here at our community clubhouse. December, of course, is booked pretty good in December. These spur-of-the-moment ideas are a challenge to deal with in a busy month!
Don't know why not bring your systems to trade.

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
Thanks for your interest folks...! Here is the information on the swap meet. (Thanks to Passionate 4 Angels for all his help with this)
This is not a for profit event. Nor is it associated with any specific group or club. It is for a group of aquarium enthusiasts that want to get together and trade, sell, buy their extra fish, plants, invertebrates, and equipment, and want to share experiences. So as not to interfer with our Greater Seattle Aquarium Society's Plant Auction tomorrow night, this SWAP will not be posted on Airstone until tomorrow night or Thursday morning. BTW..the auction willhave plants AND fish AND invertebrates in it. ALSO the public is invited!! If you want to participate, please print this email, sign it, and bring it with you.
· I have reserved the Kloshe Illahee Clubhouse, located at 2500 South 370th Street, Federal Way 98003 for 1:00pm to 5:00pm on November 24th. (Yes, I know it’s the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but that was the date I could get. Hope you can make it!)
· There’s no admission fee. Please bring a donation of canned goods or other non-perishable food which will go to Multi Services in Federal Way for distribution to those in need.
· The event will be for trading/swapping AND selling/buying items.
· There will be no advertising other than to local aquarium clubs, forums, and Craigslist.
· Pet stores are welcome to participate under the same guidelines as hobbyists. If you have a favorite pet store you would like to participate with us, pass this on to them.
· There are 10-15 banquet tables and 5-6 large round tables available and room to set up your own tables in the room. Tables will go to people in the order that I receive requests. Register with me at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or call me at 253-468-6445.
· We will need you to help set up tables at 1pm. Also, you will need to help put them away at the end of the event. This is part of why there is no cost to use the clubhouse.
· There is a limited number of electrical outlets so bring extra extension cords if you want to be able to demonstrate that electrical items work. Maybe bring a roll of duct tape too.
· For the sake of space, please bring in photos of your large items, leaving items in your vehicle.
· Due to danger with water on the floor, there will be no aquariums set up with water in them.
· All sales and trades will be between the individuals only. I will have no interest or responsibility whatsoever in the deals you make with each other.
· Please print, sign, and bring this form with you to the meet. Your signature on this document will indemnify me and Kloshe Illahee, of any responsibility for damages to you or any of your equipment/livestock. You are agreeing to not hold Kloshe Illahee, and it’s owners, and/or me, Ron Sower, responsible for any damage to your person or damage to your equipment or livestock that could unlikely occur during this event. I am only organizing and providing a venue.
HERE’S THE SCHEDULE:
1:00pm – set up tables and get your stuff out to trade and sell – prep for the big event!
1:45pm - begin trading/selling/buying/visiting/chatting/sharing – let’s enjoy fish keeping with others!!
3:45pm – begin breakdown and return tables to storage closet – many hands makes the load light!!!
4:30pm – let’s go home and enjoy our new treasures!!!!
I will abide by the terms above. Signature___________________________________
Printed Name_____________________________ Date______________
BRING THIS FORM WITH YOU TO THE MEET. (There will be blank ones there if you forget yours)

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
I'll be there with texas holey rocks, lace rocks and some aquariums left. I still have the 40 gal frag tank, 135 gallon acrylic, 27 gallon acrylic and the 75 gal glass tank.
Also have a pair of 36" coralife deluxe PC light hoods with working bulbs (pretty new) and a 48" coralife (bulbs pretty new too) . I didn't use them very often in my fishroom, only when I had people over.
Also have 5 gallon buckets of sand used in saltwater tank (natural (used to be live) sand, not silicia sand)
I sold out all my freshwater fishes.

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
Here's what someone posted they're bringing on our FB Page.....
I did a bunch of picking through my eclectic collection of stuff. Here's what I'm planning on bringing:
Some plants - java moss, java fern. I think I've killed off or otherwise purged all the duckweed. No guarantees.
Some fish - probably a pair or two of killies and maybe a bag of long finned white clouds
Dry goods like:
2 unused Aquaclear 300's new in the box
A bunch of new, unused box and sponge filters from Hydro sponge, Lustar, and others
Here is what another participant is bringing...A bunch of heaters, all known to work, not new
Some used working aquaclears
Parts for aquaclears
Some unopened cans of fish food
Some tank ornaments
A box of gravel of various sizes
4 good sized goldfish bowls
A microworm starter
Possibly a grindal worm starter
Other random dry goods
I don't want to return home with any of this stuff. I'm not looking for much - cash is preferred. For my company's giving tree, I could use a new, unused crock pot, a new and unused curling iron, or a Target gift certificate of decent denomination, that is, don't expect a ton of stuff for a $5 gift cert. $20, now yer talking...

Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
Wow what an event... Had a great time meeting new people (madness and others from this forum) and seeing old friends!! Was a great turn out in the short amount of time that myself and Ron (FLR) had to pull this together!! Started with 10 tables and had to add an additional 2 more. I will have to say if you missed event don't fret there will be another in March. No solid dates yet be be rest assured it will be posted here.
Re: Swap meet in Federal Way anyone?
Hi All,
I'm echoing the same as Aron wrote. I really appreciate all you fishboxers showing up and helping make this event fun and social as well as trading and selling and buying stuff. There was a bunch of stuff given away too.
Aron and I would like to have serious feedback from you folks!
BTW... While Linda and I went across the street from our house to have dinner with a neighbor at 6 tonight, we had another neighbor come beat on their window shouting at us that our house was on fire! Sure enough it was the kitchen....I had placed a tote with stuff from the meet on the stove and must have pushed it against the knob and turned on an eye. I got the dog out first then used the fire extinguisher and one of the neighbors', and got the fire out prior to the fire fighters arriving. The stove and a section of the kitchen was toasted. And there is ash and dust all over the house. If the neighbor had been on time to visit their friends, Linda and I would not have a house now. The dog is fine and I think the fish are too. I'll know more about them tomorow. We're staying at our daughter's tonight.
Anyway, 3 great things happened today 1) We had a great swap meet, 2) We still have our home and, 3) We're still upright and taking solid nourishment!
Tanks and our best to all,
Ron

Tanks and our best to all,
Ron
