Trimac or Flowerhorn...
16" Trimac or Flowerhorn
He is a brute! He is not as pearled as the picture shows its just the lighting...
Below are the reasons I have for each...
Trimac: not very pearled, teardrop under the eye, very basic colors.
Flowerhorn: Red comes out in fins when he gets mad, turqiuse color surroundings spots.
I would like to sell him but I would like to know what he is first...
Thanks

I want a big fish, but I want a gentle giant. Any beast with trimac in it is not gentle.

Im gonna go flowerhorn, although Im not an expert on new world cichlids... but Ive seen enough trimac to know what they look like. I also seen a few flowerhorn that looked exactly like this... pet pourri in everett was selling a bunch of babies about 2 yrs ago.... one of our contributors that mysterly disapeared (kingstature) was selling them. i wonder if he ever uploaded pictures of the adults?

Re: Trimac or Flowerhorn...
I have seen pics of both also and I lean towards trimac everytime. If my doubt is all your going on then your probably not the person to ask... not to be rude, just saying. and yes D he is not considered a gentle giant... I have him with my dovii, devil, and new yellow jacket (thanks madness) and he trys to run the tank and beat on them all hes just not quite fast enough and lets face it parachromis's are some of the smartest fish out there!
If anyone can tell me what he is and tell me why then I would be most grateful. thanks

Re: Trimac or Flowerhorn...
This is the issue with this fish. If you don't know where it originaly came from then you have to assume flower horn. There are only a few places out there that can get 100% true trimac. They are so easy to breed and have been so cross bred that its no longer reliable to just go by someones word. It has to have come from a reputiable source. Its the same thing with the red devil/midas. I love red devils, but had not seen anyone offering a true red devil that I could follow the line back and check to make sure there was never any midas bred into it anywhere. Untill I found that, I refused to keep them. If you don't care which it is, then enjoy your fish, but if you were looking for a trimac, then get ahold of rapps, conkle, mo, or anyone that has wild caught or F1s from those places. Other wise, you have a flower horn. Sorry I'm not trying to be rude, but that's the reality of these fish.

The reason VW gave is a strong reason why I also believe it is a FH. A tru Trimac is hard to find. Here is a pic of my F1.

See how yours has pearling in the fins and a little in the body. All the trimacs that I have seen do not have this. Also the Trimac is known for their bright red throat and strong yellow color in the body. I dont see that on yours. What I see is a Trimac crossed with a Lyonsi. Thats why you have the redder body and fins with the pearling/spotting in the fins, and body. Here is a video of Mels beautiful Trimacs. I dont see any resemblance between my pic and the video to tell me yours is full Trimac. Sorry.

Re: Trimac or Flowerhorn...
if you cant trace the lineage to wc parents or get them from reputable online vendors then 9 out of 10 times you will get a flowerhorn as they are a base fish for most flowerhorns out there and has almost ruined the chance of finding true trimacs.
mels trimac tank split a seam and has to be repaired

Re: Trimac or Flowerhorn...
I'm no supreme expert on the id of cichlids but that's to fh ish to be a trimac and as said before for being a once common fish they are now mixed in with everything and can be really hard to find so I doubt its pure.but it is beautiful if u like it keep but id sell for 75 80 as a fh

Re: Trimac or Flowerhorn...
Do you have any baby pictures of him??? Like I said before, Kingstature was a FH breeder that was a mod on this sight... He sold fish that look just like a baby version of yours.... I thought he uploaded a picture of the parents but cant seem to find it... he did upload a picture of some of the baby FH he was selling.
