Name this moss/algae please
I have this moss or maybe it is an algae growing in the crevices of my rocks in my planted tank. Can anyone identify this for me? I don't recall planting it (but maybe I stuffed something in the cracks...I just don't remember). it is thick and spongy. The congo tetras like to make passes over it and the snails, mollies, and plecos don't eat it. Seems to be real time spawning mop but what it is I just don't know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is that stuff spongy SirWes? It has a lot of substance to it that why I wasn't sure whether algae or moss?

It looks to be Cladophora algae to me, I don't know why but it's been an issue in all my tanks this winter as well.

That's a great link Chad...thank you. If its algae...it must be something like Cladophora as it is not slimy at all...but spongy and firm. It is in one of the highest flow parts of the aquarium...right under the spraybar so its getting good flow there I think as the water hits the front of the tank and circles back.
Probably nutrient related as I'm still trying to figure out dosing and I keep forgetting a day (or two)...ok...will work on that and see if it clears.
In the meantime, I think I'll pull a sample and bring it over Tuesday and see if anyone can do a firm ID on it (either member or store maybe)

Cichlid_gal,
I believe this is a type of Hair algee, it's due to your higher P.H. Dkh water in that (soap lake regeon) area. I'm on well water with a p.h. of 8.2 and have the same issues. Check the phosophate content of your water. A test kit can be purchased at any pond supply store, some fish stores (the fish store, I have more coupons too) or I can get U one at McLendon's hardware.
