Best Substrate for Corydoras?
What is the best substrate for Corydoras? I'm thinking the CaribSea Tahitian Moon Sand has been damaging my Corydoras barbels though love the look of the sand. I'm not fully sure if the death of my last cory was from that or just because it looked quite skinny compared to the others. Or if something else was going on and no one else looks or shows any health issues.
I have no issue with the tan colored CaribSea with my Kuhli Loaches in the 29 gallon. They all appear healthy.

I use pool filter sand, that you can buy at Ace Hardware, and haven't had any problems with my cories. All their barbels are nice and long, and they love digging/sifting through the sand.
I like the color of pool filter sand, it's got a nice really really REAAAALLY light brown, almost like a cream color to it, which looks a lot more natural than super white sand. Works great for plants too! Win-win!

Would panda Cories show up on that? I guess Wet Spot has them on light brown sand... so probably then.
I am planning on redoing my tank so I could change substrate at the same time since I was planning on getting different plants, etc. It will be quite the endeavor.

I'll shot a video of corydoras on the light sand. We use and sell the same sand that the wet spot uses for their corydoras.
Re: Best Substrate for Corydoras?
I've kept and bred panda corys on tahitian moon sand for about 2 years now - no problems with barbels at all. I've raised about 25 fry on the stuff too without problems.
I've read that some people say it (tahitian moon sand) damages cory barbels, but I haven't experienced that at all. I've also read that barbel damage is more closely related to the health of the fish itself, rather than the substrate it's on. I've read some people successfully keep them on eco complete, which is extremely abrasive.
I also keep panda corys on pool filter sand and they appear quite washed out compared with the ones I keep on tahitian moon sand.
