I'd also like 3 or so of these fry as they become avaiable if I can afford them. I can take them samll and save you the fish food as well.

Phsst...drab implies brown and dull...I know of no female Victorians that are those colors Silvers and golds are more like it. But beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.fishyladdy wrote:thanks cichlid-gal! i like the females also they arent so drab

Re: holding female uganda fire red!!
I've had the best luck moving them to a maternity tank for a week before stripping. Keeps the females from spitting in the main tank, allows her to relax some, and its easier to catch her when she needs to be stripped. Not everyone does it like this, but it seems the least stressful on the fish, and you're almost guaranteed a healthy batch of fry.

Re: holding female uganda fire red!!
ive never had to do that thankfully they always hold full term and ive never had one spit in my tank so im not too worried. i watch my tanks very closely and i know what day they start holding everytime

Re: holding female uganda fire red!!
id suggest that when you do strip her that you limit how long you work her for. for new mothers i never do anything over 30-60 seconds. if i cant get them all by then back in she goes to spit naturally. ive had bad experiences stripping fish that were too young to handle stress and ended up losing em in the process. GL with the stripping, i always have fun with it when i feel like catching em .

How far from wild are these fish? They are beautiful and I'd still like fry when there are ready to go.

Re: holding female uganda fire red!!
I thought I had an all male cichlid tank until a few days ago with one holding. I cold have sworn this peacock had some color and an egg spot on her tail when I got her from the store.
Congrats on the upcoming additions.

I can't wait to purchase a few of these. I'll take them small and raise them up. I can do it in November if you feel they're ready.

Re: holding female uganda fire red!!
Buy some extra for me maybe like 6 babies. I'll pick them up from you and pay you back. You're closer to me than fishyladdy. Where is Seattle do you reside? North, south, west, or east of Seattle. Im coming from maple valley. Please let me know if you could grab some for me when she's ready. Thanks. Sirwesdragon aka wesley.

Re: holding female uganda fire red!!
I'm in North Seattle. I have limited resources so it would depend on what they cost. You would only be saving 2 miles (I checked Google) so it makes more sense for you to go striaght to fishyladdy.

Re: holding female uganda fire red!!
sounds to me like you might be lacking females.. given that this isnt the first time youve lost some of your girls (based on other posts) you should consider upping the numbers of girls you have for all your species. i think you might find you get better results once the aggression is spread a little further. gl to ya and sry for your loss.
