Ninja Pleco
Ok, this guy came from a tank I got with a bunch of fish.... I didnt even know he existed, sad thing is I did a 100% water change when he was in there, and I had no idea. But, he lived... and a few months later, I noticed him.... lol... thats why I call him ninja pleco.... he is pretty cool looking.... but, what is he? just a albino? any guesses? Re: Ninja Pleco
Lol, I am gonna grow this lil' guy out.... he/she has already been thru allot.... I ouw him a happy life after that.
Kingstature - I picked up a 46gal bowfront with some fish in it already.... cleaned it out, but kept the substrate.... the guy I got it from rarely ever vacummed his sub, so the 100% waterchange and filter change caused an ammonia spike and killed all the lufubu that i put in there ..... anyway.... this lil' guy went thru it all.... survived the 100% water change (cause I didnt know he/she was in there) and the ammonia spike. Popped out like a ninja a month later... lol

Re: Ninja Pleco
alright.... the experts have told me this...
"Albino short fin bushynose/bristlenose, Ancistrus sp.
The albino bushynose is a mixture of unknown Ancistrus species, thus it can't have a species name, so it is simply....
Ancistrus sp."
had a couple people agree with it too... so this is what I am thinking! thanks all!

Re: Ninja Pleco
I concur, it's a Albino bristlenose pleco, or ABN for short. I breed these at my house also.

Re: Ninja Pleco
Alright... so we obviously figured out what it is... well what everyone thinks it is..... What i dont get is why its still so small.... I have had it for probably 4-5 months... and its grew maybe 1/2"..... so maybe 2 1/2" in length now.... Are these just super slow growing plecos? never had anything but a common, and he got big fast.

Re: Ninja Pleco
They only get 5 to 6" average so im sure 1/2" is alot in that amount of time.

Re: Ninja Pleco
jeeeez... that is slow growing.... 1/2 inch in 4-5 months..... cause it was only a baby at 2", think entering juvinile age it should have a bigger spurt than a 1/2 inch in a 1/2 year. But, they could live a 100 years.. I know nothing about these guys.. lol
I guess Im just used to like cichlids that grow 2"-3" every six months unti lthere full grown in a yr and a half..

Re: Ninja Pleco
yea bristlnoses dont grow quick.. they are so slow that you dont notice untill one day it smacks you and you realize and notice how much they have grown.. If it has grown that slowly it is just a albino bristlenose like i first thought and it should be a female.. and that size males already are showing some sign of bristles..

Re: Ninja Pleco
Sandnuka, are you feeding it anything special or does it just eat the algae and whatever leftovers it can scrounge? I find that mine grow faster when they are in tanks that I can feed them without competition from other fish. In tanks with other fish they are slow growers though -- everything I try to sneak in for them gets eaten by the others. (Think I'll post pics of my plecos next...)

Re: Ninja Pleco
Yes, BN are much slower and will never get very big - I believe they only reach 4-5" total length. But the big advantage - they continue to devour algae their entire life, and they don't become poop machines like their bigger cousins.

Re: Ninja Pleco
Well that answers that! lol.... Betty, I throw in a cucumber and some vege flake now and then.... she is in a discus tank, the discus wont touch the alge flake or the cucumber, so she gets what she needs.... plus its a planted tank with really good lightin so there is soooo much alge, I need a few more cause its not puttin a dent in the alge... maybe snails or I will get 3 or 4 more BN

Re: Ninja Pleco
i didnt know they stayed so small or I wouldve gotten them along time ago..... I hated plecos cause they just get soooo big, and create more waste than they clean! I love the albino guys too, something about that bright color on a pleco just looks so cool.... I just asked a breeder if he had any left. Hopefully can pick some up this week.

This isn't the north end, but I was in Blue Sierra in Renton the other day and they have a few of the long finned mutation AB's left.
I have 4 of the long finned guys, two red eyed and two blue eyed, still too young to sex though.

Re: Ninja Pleco
lol Just a side note on he/she living through the 100% water change. My boyfriend recently aquired a LARGE pleco from our local fish store. Approx. 8-9" long. The first night he was home in the tank we left for about 5 hours and when he came home he had just the tank light on not the living room lights and couldn't find the pleco anywhere. He walked all around the tank and couldn't find the pleco (how can a pleco that big just disappear!) Well even more curious he turned on the living room lights and starts looking further and finds Mr. Pleco laying on the floor. Somehow he managed to get himself out of the tank. (no one has access to his apartment and no other animals are in the house) He had managed to move the light that sits on top and got out the back. When he was found he was breathing VERY slowly and was dry and stiff. We didn't have much faith in him making it through the night. My boyfriend picked him up put him in the tank and swished him a little bit and let go, sure enough belly up, but still alive. So he grabbed him again and pushed him deeper in the water swishing him yet again and Mr. Pleco swam out of his hand and low and behold. About a month later Mr. Pleco is doing JUST fine. We put filler pieces in the back section of the tank and actually have to put a pellet can (which is all metal including the pellets for a gun) on top of the glass tops where they open because he will quite often turn and swipe his tail across the lids and open them. He is a very strong fish!! Definitely shocked the hell out of us going through all that! Tank is spotless definitely a good purchase! And some entertainment as well

Re: Ninja Pleco
I will have a whole bunch of little albino long finned bristle noses for sale soon.
Give her zucchini, yellow squash, blood worms, cantaloupe, algae wafers. A good varied diet increases growth rate a bunch. They are only slow growers if not well fed.

Fern! your in florida! how is tellin us all these great fish you have available gonna help!!??!? lol....
Shippin is always expensive... actually thats why I put together the group buy thread.... If you see in there we group together and buy from a sponsor/shop online that way we can split shipping.... I dont think you have enough fish for sale to cover a large group buy though..
If you did, you could make some money... I just paid our sponsor 800 something for this group buy going on now... check out all the cool fish we ordered... "reserve stock cichlids II" in the group buy section under market.

Re: Ninja Pleco
I'm in the midst of getting set up with sw air cargo, $60ish will ship a big box of fish within 24hrs. In a couple of months I am going to be selling a BUNCH of fry for pretty cheap, just because I'm running out of tank space If they keep breeding the way they are I may have to move my bed out just to make fry room
