Heating solution for fx5-6 filters
Using one of these wrapped on one fx5 seems to work superbly. I use a heater controller to power it price is not bad for an 800 watt. No more heaters in the tank or sump. Seems to be the solution I have been looking for. If I get one more for winter I should be set on the outside tanks.

I have had this running since spring to see how goes no issues at all even large cold changes are rapidly brought to temp.

Very cool idea! Or should I say hot. (heater humor)

I use the 300 watt Hydor in line heaters and just made some barbed PVC T's and used tubing instead of the stuff that is included with the FX5. Since the heaters only accept a 5/8" hose I used two on a line to not reduce flow. I had not thought of a heater like that to use.

The FX6 really needs its own built in heater. Thats one thing I liked about a couple of the Eheim's that they did built in heating. Of course the price was so outrageous with no media being included that I did not have $600 for just one filter.

I wonder if there is enough room inside them to do a DIY modification to put a heater in.

Anything is possible... but it would be awesome if they built one in. I look at the new canisters that have a built in UV and think a built in heater would be more practical.

Hmm.. is it possible to remove the UV sterilizer and put a heater in it's place?

Reasonable once you look at the cost of the In-line heaters. $738hbluehunter wrote:Very cool idea, that is until i saw they cost $135.. That's one expensive heater..

Even my set up has two 300 watt inline Hydors at about $55 a pop plus custom plumbing so an easy $135 to heat my 210g.
