WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
Good morning to all of our Fishbox family. As some of you have probably noticed, our site is going through some changes. If you cant find your favorite place to hang, just shoot me or the other Mods a p.m. and we will direct you there.
I would like to welcome to the Mod Hell, LOL, our newest Mod, Poke. We will be making a lot more changes through out the day as we feel out what works, looks, and feels the best. We are trying to make this easier to get around and find things and also trying to keep all topics busy. A lot of things have been condensed and others removed. Instead of a show and tell section, we now have a place for all pictures, & videos. (kind of the same thing, just placed in a different local) Also added is a product review/discussion towards the bottom of the forum page. Here you can talk about all products involved in the hobby. Any new foods, filtration, etc....
Also, the forum has been taken over by an individual that is quickly becoming a local favorite, for the things he offers and does and how he is running his new business. Welcome in our new Admin, Cory from Aquarium Co-Op. I have known Cory for a while now, we met years ago when he was managing a small fish store up in Conway. And one thing that I have noticed is that when he takes on a task, he wants it to be the best. Just look at his store (which I wish was a bit closer to me ) So I can almost guarantee that he will make fishbox something special.
We will be keeping the POTM, but are still deciding on possible prizes other than just getting your picture on the banner. We are looking into getting more well known sponsors, like Hakari and others. The market section will somewhat remain the same, but if you thought I was a pain before on the market rules, Guess what, I am still going to be. We want all subject lines to start out with, FS, WTT, WTB, FT, FREE and then the other required items.
As things come up, I will add them here. And please feel free to comment on any of the changes, or if you have ideas.

Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
Thanks for the post Madness,
I'm hoping we can move this community forward again. Look for lots of positive changes here. Don't be afraid to make suggestions in the forum operations section.
Upon acquiring WaFishBox I've found we're using some very limited forum software technology. In the coming months we'll be looking at how we can move all the current content to a new platform if it's feasible. Our current host provides no way to backup content. Which means if the server crashes we lose all of our posts. It also means we can't just make a backup and move it to a more stable provider.
In the mean time what can you do?? Stay active! Tell your friends, post on your Facebook or Craigslist etc.

Don't worry. Poke is only a mod so we can push all the blame for anything bad onto him.
Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
We still have yet to see a VIDEO of LJ's 15 gallon tank ;-) come on LJ, I already gave you some software names for you to try out, as far as video editing is concerned. What's the hold up? I already have 3 videos of my 15 gallon. lol
Anywho, If you haven't already noticed, there's a new search box to the right of the forum, try it out. It's slightly better than the Search Tab, because it lets you search outside of the forums (using google).

Hey Cory, one thing that has never worked on here is the multi-quote tab. I would assume it is for clicking on all the posts that you would like to comment on, and having them pop up so that you can do them at once, instead of copy paste, copy paste, copy paste......................
Can you fix this?

Works for me. You select all the posts you want to quote with the multi-quote button (turns pink/red) and then click the reply button all the way down at the bottom on the left. I quoted you with multiquotemadness wrote:Hey Cory, one thing that has never worked on here is the multi-quote tab. Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
That option to search the forum using Google has always been there. You just click that search tab in the navigation bar up top, then click Advanced Search, type in your keywords and click on Search Google. I don't like the look of the forum page with that search box on the side now. I do like the other changes though. And congrats, Poke and Cory.PokeSephiroth wrote:

Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
The chat room has been disabled due to it being counteractive to a forum. With a thriving chat room, the forum will lose out on information. With a thriving forum, no one will use the chat room etc. We're focusing the content to one central location. In the future we can revisit the chat room feature if needed.Spyral wrote:Where is the chat room?
Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
Nothing is final yet, we're still trying things out etc. For instance we can shrink the size of the search box, add other options over there etc.Betty wrote:That option to search the forum using Google has always been there. Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
Here's something that I've been wanting to bring up for a while now...
Whenever I try to associate my account with my facebook account, it doesn't work. When I click on the button/link, the pop up window errors out... Dunno if there's a way to fix this. I s'pose there is, but I don't know how to go about fixing it.

Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
I'm excited to see the site being taken over by someone who has the time, energy, & expertise to do so.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this forum what it is today. I'm in grad school at WSU currently, but when I return I'll make sure to stay active.
Great job Cory

Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
I dunno, that search tab was pretty useful for me, especially when I was tracking down topics, that I couldn't find through the portal.
New look = thinning out the forum sections, and adding/merging older forum sections, just to make navigating through all the topics, somewhat easier.
In the future, we plan on adding more features to the forum. As the forum stands right now, we are limited with what we can do, but we're making the most of it. Once we transition (IF we transition) to a new forum, that's when we will add other features IF there will be other features, which I'm sure there will be.

Hey Mikey, my son is over there and he needs a swift kick in the ass to realize that school is important, he completely screwed off, and spent $27000 to go to school last year and has nothing to show for it. So could you do that for me?Mikey wrote:I'm excited to see the site being taken over by someone who has the time, energy, & expertise to do so.

I disagree...we would then perhaps end up with either a.) someone who doesn't have the time/energy/expertise for the job or b.) we would only have the same people putting their hat in the ring over and over and eventually there just wouldn't be a point
there needs to be some sort of continuity, and changing mods monthly would not be able to facilitate that.

Agreed, bad idea. Mods have nothing to do with the progress of the forum or its members. They are basically forum police here keeping the asylum from getting out of control. All of the members make the forum not the mods. If you want to vote for new mods then we should also vote for new members.

So great to hear about Cory becoming involved. I already enjoy this forum but the infusion of Cory's ideas and enthusiasm sounds like a great addition.
Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
well, I feel once the mods see a need for an additional mod, and are able to identify a person with the expertise who puts the time into the forum necessary, arbitrarily "recruit" works just fine. if you wanna be a mod, put in the time. show you bring something to the table & to this im referring to forum management skills and ideas, not simply fish expertise.
like madness said, we are all content generators here. we make the forum what it is

Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
I like the activity tracker on the side, though I also miss knowing whose online..... That used to help me decide who to pm to get questions answered quickly...... I'd also love to see more social events take place with this forum. It would be cool to have a social hour at a restaurant / bar once a month or maybe some luncheon things on weekends. Just some informal fish talk with like minded people. Just some things to mull over.

Re: WAFISHBOX FACE LIFT
I agree with what lloyd378 brought up as well. One of the things that attracted me to this community was that you folks know each other in person. Fishbox really only got cemented in my head at last year's GSAS auction when I saw ya'll wearing your Fishbox ID tags with your screen names. I thought that was really smart. That is when I met several of you kind folks too. I agree that the group's goal of taking the online friendship into the real world is really admirable and fun.
