Keep your room smelling fresh and Auto Dose planted aquariums at the same time
So I've been thinking about different methods of auto dosing ferts and came upon this.
He uses an auto air freshener to do the auto dosing. Clever idea.

I would most likely put it on a timer to get the correct amounts

Unfortunately that particular model of air freshener is about $380......maybe a less expensive model could be modified?

Re: Keep your room smelling fresh and Auto Dose planted aquariums at the same time
interesting.
This would be a neat project. Dialed in properly would be very useful. After setting up an auto drip system/auto water changer on a planted 140 gallon tank my maintenance time has been cut dramatically. Reading this thread , I think I could hook my drip system in an "inline" fertilizer dispenser. It wouldn't be that hard. The wheels are turning

$380 for an Air Wick Automatic freshener? I've seen those for just a few dollars!

I would start by searching the net for hydroponic stuff...and commercial stuff (even farming applications might use inline fertilizer things). There has to be stuff out there that does this without costing an arm and a leg.

I like that! Would you premix all the various ferts into one bottle? Or would that cause a problem?

Here is a model that seems to have the flow rate and cycle periods that would work for auto-dosing ferts.

Re: Keep your room smelling fresh and Auto Dose planted aquariums at the same time
simply because I had one of these Toms aqualift ($15) laying around I experimented with it.
I plugged it into a timer and did one notch down = 12 minutes of run time, attached a hose valve to adjust the drip rate and so far its working pretty good.
This is a just a simple setup and trial run.
Macros on the left container and Micros on the right. Each contains 3 cups worth and one weeks worth of ferts.
The 12 minute run will drip about 1 cup's worth. I'll alternate the hose every evening from macro to micro. By the end of the weekend each container would have dosed 3x each and ready for a refill. Now I can just create a mixed solution once a week with the water change instead of individually scooping each fert every morning, which was making me late for work.

That ebay one looks like the perfect thing for a DIY Arduino project. I think I'll pick up a couple and do some mad science!Seattle_Aquarist wrote:Hi theChad,
