340 Gallon Aquarium Move.. Empty 340 Gallon Aquarium Move..

Post  Aquarium Co-Op 2013-04-05, 02:46

So next Thursday I'll be transporting a 340 gallon glass tank from auburn to my shop.

I'm wondering if anyone has any glass suction cups, or advise on moving a tank like that. I'm thinking it'll need 6-8 people. Possibly a dolly. I'm considering making a "dolly" with industrial wheels that could support the tank/stand when filled with water and just moving it on that.

Anyone want to chime in?

9 lbs per gallon sooo 3060lbs.
I think we'll need more than a dolly, will that tank be on a pallet?
I can't get you one of those sadly Sad

You will definitely need 6+ people. And my advise would be to move the tank empty separate from the stand. I had a 240 RR moved in recently, and the plumbing was all glued in. So it meant moving it on the stand, with the sump in it too. No water. I had 5 guys moving it. It worked out okay but it is HEAVY!!!!!!!! And really awkward being on the stand.
That 340 gal all glass tank alone is going to weigh in at about 450-500lbs.

Cant wait to see it up and running at your shop. I take it this is going to be the shop display tank.

Never moved a tank that size but would have to agree on moving it empty. The stress on the joints and glass could be disastrous, not to mention the stress on the movers.

i would rent a truck with a lift gate, and use furniture moving doliies from harbor freight. one for each corner and wheel it in your store that way so your not really lifting it most the time. and i would suggest 10 people when you want to actually lift it / possition it to where you want.

have what ever stand you plan on putting it on ready to go. so you dont need help moving it again to set in in place.

Yeah, I'll be using the stand it comes with. I'll probably have dollies, glass suction cups and as many people as I can muster.
