From what I hear they grow to at least a foot long and are very aggressive. $14.99 for one's that are about an inch listed here:

Whenever I hear the word Tilapia, my Filipino Nostrils Flare, and I can already smell a tilapia frying in a pan somewhere.
Dang, when I found out that tilapia were a certain type of cichlid, my mind was blown. I can never keep any type of cichlid because my filipino friends would come over with oil and a frying pan....

Butti are very nasty big fish. Easily 12"+ closer to 14-16 range. If you are getting one plan on it being alone. I have had lots of aggressive fish survive together, but a Butti doesnt like to play nice. Not to mention, large and dirty. Like an Oscar, they eat a lot a poo a lot. LOL

Lol...
Most large aquarium fish are a food source from their native habitats.

True.
When I was in the Philippines, I had a friend who had a huge flowerhorn, and when it died, he didn't want it to go to waste, so he fried the sucker up, and ate it. And I was like "......................................................................................." D: . . .

I had a Buttekoferi come into my parents fish store and it was a solid 15". it was impressive, but means as hell, and made the 175 bowfront it was in looks tiny. I would say unless you have a 300+ gallon tank you want to call "HIS" i wouldnt suggest getting him.

LOLOLOL. Kidding aside, holy moly, 300+ gallon tank for that sucker? I'm going to have to pass. lol.

Re: butterkofferi tilapia?
"300+" is a little of an over statement, but you get the idea. in the 175 bow all he could do was swim like 4 of his body lengths then turn around and go back.... and so on. They are one of the most aggressive fish i have seen, so any tank you stick him in, will essentialy be "HIS".
