LED lighting question Empty LED lighting question

Post  DMD123 2012-05-27, 15:30

I am thinking of building a canopy for my 210g and use a DIY LED lighting set up. My current lighting is 36" T5 freshwater tubes x 4. This at times seems to really get the algae going on the inside of the glass tops and tops of the plastic plants. So my question is for those running LED lighting, Do you notice less algae growth using LED lighting?

I don't have near the algae I had when I was using the t5 haggen "glo" lights. I still get some on the glass and the trophs do help keep it in check on the rocks.

Thanks for the response Jim. What type of fixture are you using?

I went with the Beamworks reef bright. Very well priced! If I had to do it over I would go with the dbl brights or just build my own. That being said I don't have the patience to build my own. Laughing

Beamworks has got a lot of attention recently due to having some of the best pricing. With the DIY approach I may not save that much money, I may be better off just buying one made up.

Yeah I don't think DIY is the cheapest route to go, but it's gratifying. If you like doing that type of stuff??

I do like wood working so when I got my tank I did a lot of custom work on the stand. I have been thinking of a custom canopy so the DIY lighting kind of was part of that project.
