Looking to set up a 20L for shelldwellers. What species would you suggest? How should it be setup to be best for the fish? How many should go in a 20L when well setup? Where can I even find them?

Sorry about asking so many questions I just want to do a tank right for once.

Shell dwellers are really fun tanganyikan cichlids! 20 Long is perfect for a nice group of 10 fish.... To make it comfortable have a sand bottom and 1.5x the amount of shells.... So you have 10 fish, get 15 shells..... Any snail shell works... i usually buy them at amazon pretty cheap for a small bundle...

Where to buy them, from our sponsor is one place if you want to spend the money on shipping he has a pretty fair price. (Reserve stock cichlids) ..... I think Our other sponsor, (wolverine cichlids) has a small group.... as far as what kind to get, there all pretty much the same to me, each has a lil' different personality.... Ive had brevis and hecqui before.

Here is a link to reserve stock cichlids shellies he has available.

Does anybody around here keep/breed any shellies? I would love to buy them locally from another hobbyist but if that isn't possible sierra said they could order some in on their next order and I wouldn't have to pay shipping.

Like I said, wolverinecichlids is one of our sponsors, he lives in everett... think he had a small group he was selling... contact him... his name is gobluecichlids on here... his sponsor area is in the market under sponsors... he checks thru here daily. Smile

I just sold my group of 10 to luvsmyfishies... she is another sponsor of ours... lives in renton I believe... but they were too small to start breeding yet... she should have babies in the next 3- 6 months though. Smile

Good luck.

It will be a week or more till I can buy I was just looking to see what I could do to get the tank ready. Would catching wild snails boiling them and feeding the meat to the RD give me snail shells that would work for shellies?

gotta be some really big snails.... the shells have to be big enough for them to go all the way up in there.... and not get stuck of course.
