Just an Oscar or two, 210g update
Have been bummed since the plague hit my tank and have not taken very many pics. So I decided I need to snap out of it and show everybody what I have growing out in the 210g.
Here is the first Oscar, kind of plain but has a great personality and gets along great in a community setting.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Here is the second Oscar who is affectionately called "the jerk" because he does not play well with others.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Here's the bad boys together, They were both the same size when I got them, but the one has grown faster than the other. A little bit of an optical illusion with the smaller one in back but there really is a huge size difference in the two.

Here is the new flagtail, getting to be one of my favorites

Loves to hang out with the red hook silver dollars

The new spotted silver dollars, they are tiny!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The new gold sev checking out his reflection next to "the jerk"

So that is my update on the 210g.
Still looking for one more cichlid, possibly Zerc has a stalsbergi that might go into the mix. Or trying to find an inexpensive pike of some sort. "The jerk" Oscar is very colorful but does not get along well with other fish so he may end up going.

The one Oscar probably is twice the size of the other and getting thick. I hope he turns out to be one of those HUGE Oscars you see on occasion.

the fish is in good shape right now too, all of the aggression from my big orange pig has been directed at my green terror, who seems to always be missing a few scales.

I like your flagtail and your sevrum, they look great... not a big fan of oscars, but your look healthy.

The big O has the proper body shape and fullness about him. The smaller one just does not have a typical Oscar look to me. Its not deformed just an elongated, thinness about it. Eats like a pig still.
Most likely I will only have one Oscar, the bigger community friendly one. The sev is an experiment, seems way too shy and reclusive for my taste but its only been in the tank since Sunday so I will give it some time. I am still thinking about another Pearsei...
So nothing is really 100% for sure in this stock, except the big O, Flagtail and SD's.

what about adding some Geophagus to your SA theme? Say like 3 Gymnogeophagus Gymnogenys? Or like I said before and you never responded to it, a male Kraussi.

Fish at home. Oscars hate it. Thankfully it is bigger than them, it just has not realized it yet.
Its starting to get some color back and swimming around checking everything out.

What? We still have photo contests?
I will attempt to take a real nice photo one of these days instead of just a snapshot. But the competition is pretty fierce! Our fish box members have some great fish!

Re: Just an Oscar or two, 210g update
Well I still need to do some adjusting. The stalsbergi realized he was big and went on the rampage tore up the side fin on the smaller more colorful Oscar and started chasing everything in the tank. I pulled it out and put it into the empty 20L that I had.
So looking for something else thats mellow. So anyone want to trade something for a 4-5" stalsbergi, let me know.

No problem, you never know with fish what will happen. I dont have a lot of cichlids to diffuse or spread aggression out so they basically have to get along or they have to go. I guess I was spoiled when I had my midas he made it so easy to put things in with him. He never had an issue with anything. Not bad really for my first fish that wouldnt get along.

Give the stalsbergi another chance imo, it sounds like your small oscar had it coming!
maybe they were just establishing a new pecking order?

Re: Just an Oscar or two, 210g update
It was more than pecking order, it was just going wild realizing it was top dog. The chaos in the tank was not worth it. Even the little O can be civil 95% of the time. Overall I have a very easygoing peaceful tank. This fish was acting like your con. It would be a great fish if something bigger was there to keep it in check. My Oscars will need 3-4 months to get to that point.

Re: Just an Oscar or two, 210g update
I am looking to keep three cichlids. So far the large Oscar and gold sev get along great. The smaller O can get moody at times but over all is not too bad, but I really want just one Oscar.
So I am looking for that one cichlid that can work. The three cichlid thing was going great with my last set up with the Midas, Argentea and Pearsei. They got along well and I was done, then the sickness hit.
I know how difficult it can be with just the three to get along but I know it can work. Ideally five would be a better choice to spread aggression. I really like a community and want to keep the "other" non-cichlids. They just make it feel more like an actual slice of nature. In nature you really would not see many of these cichlids so close together, even three seems like too many to me. Oh well, I will figure something out.

I like the Jerk -- he's cute. I hope he didn't get beaten up too badly.
I don't know anything about keeping American cichlids. Do they do better as singles than they do in species groups?

they do well in small groups if they are not aggressive specimens. My group does well because there is so many. For some reason aggression is almost nonexistent. (sans one psychotic convict).

Re: Just an Oscar or two, 210g update
Everyone seems to be doing fine after the few beatings that got dished out by the stalsbergi. The small O pouted for a while in the corner but perked back up to feed. His side fin is almost all healed up already. These guys grow at an alarmingly fast rate!

Re: Just an Oscar or two, 210g update
Thanks!
I keep wanting to add 'just one more'. But the group I have get along pretty well and I have four fish capable of getting big enough to be seen well. So I am letting them grow out and see how they do.

you could add some festivums. they are rather peaceful and dont get too big. they can get spooked easily tho thats the only downside. or maybe some geos or something?

Good idea on the festivums. Saw some at the Sumner fish store, they were pretty nice looking. I wouldnt mind a geo of some sort not sure what type. Any ideas?
Was even thinking of a chocolate, but I hear they can be hit or miss as adults in a community tank.
