Hi all,

I have an ADA Mini-L aquarium (about 8.8 gallons) which currently houses 8 Boraras brigittae and a few amano shrimp. I've grown bored with the current fish and am hoping for suggestions. This is an open-top tank so, I can't have anything that is well known for jumping, though I do have lots of red root floating plants to prevent some skittishness. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Ha! I probably should have said freshwater only. I had a saltwater tank about 10 years ago and decided I will never do that again. Thanks for the thought though, I'm sure that would look awesome!

Aww sorry to hear that. Lilfishie has some beautiful little killies that would probably fit in a 9gal, they looked like bright red female bettas with the most beautiful sky blue eyes.

Those Killi's are called Nothobranchius cardinalis.

just fyi, killi's can not be bought from pet stores. They are rarely available from on line pet stores. The only place to get these are from privat breaders. These are eating flake food and frozen mysis.

No they are adults. females are getting ready to lay eggs though. They're pretty fat.

Oh! Is that why you wanted the 10 gallon? Which speaking of that, the 20 should be done cycling soon.

I had thought of doing Killies but have heard that they are sure to jump in an open-top tank. In my search for options, I have come across Pseudomugil gertrudae. Does anyone have experience with these fish?

Those are very pretty little fish. Let us know and post pics if you get them.

Ever think about a shellie tank? Lamprologus stappersi are a Lake Tanganyika cichlid. They are a dwarf species and they live in shells. They really are amazing little fish. All you need is a sandy bottom, a bunch of escargot shells and let them find their home. They will find a shell they like, pick it up and set it up where they want it. They have amazing personalities and are really fun to watch. The best thing is, you can have a mating pair in as little as a 5 gallon tank. You can get the fish at A Place For Pets in Burien and Sierra Pets in Renton.

Here is a good post on them with some great pictures of the little guys in their environment.
