Cichlid Guessing Game CA & SA Cichlids
I have been playing this game on MFK and it can get pretty interesting, so I thought we could try this here. Maybe we can get one like this going in the African section also, for the African Cichlid enthusiasts.
Cichld Guessing Game, CA/SA Cichlids Only!!
All right, so here is how this is gonna work, I'll post a picture of a SA/CA Cichlid. Then the first person to CORRECTLY name that Cichlid, (complete scientific name so there is no confusion), will get to post a new pic of a different Cichlid. It doesn't have to be a Cichlid you own either. Hopefully this will add a little zam and bam to this forum! Best of luck to you all! Gonna try my best to stump ya! Let the games begin!!
NO HYBRIDS

Re: Cichlid Guessing Game CA & SA Cichlids
Great stumping picture!! I am only going to guess the one. I know all of the thorichthys spieces pretty well and that picture could be one of 4. There is an obvious answer, I just figured you would go with something ummm, less common. That's why I guessed the maculipinnis. Come on people guess!!!!!!

Alright here is mine:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
And at least I will give a hint: Native to coastal rivers of Pacific Panama. It's known from the TuÃra, Chucunaque and Bayano river drainages.
Tends to inhabit large, permanent bodies of water including lakes and ponds, although it's also been recorded in slow-moving parts of rivers. It particularly favours submerged rocky walls and banks, where it swims among the crevices.

Man this one is tough. I actually found the exact picture on-line and they had it listed as the Cichlasoma trimaculatum
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
So I am not crazy! They have it mislabeled on this site.

We need a hint. Is this the normal color version of the fish or a variant?

WOW, nice find. Ya that picture is out of place.

South American, only gets around 3-5", found in the Amazon River basin. It is a recently new genus. Say found in 1996. (hint)

Nope.
DMD123 wrote:We need a hint. Is this the normal color version of the fish or a variant?
Yes it is a normal color. The picture makes it look huge but does not get very big. Found in Ecuador, and Columbia.
