I have it in most of my tanks. I really like it.

Mixed with a little bit of gravel.

This is what the bag looks like. I've gotten it at pool/spa supply stores and found it cheaper at McClendon's.

I have play sand in my 180, and silica in my 110. I don't know what my 45 gallon has I bought it at the pet store. I have black sand in my tanganyikan tank. I have red flourite in my 20 long. Of all of them I like the silica for my substrate sifters, and the black sand for everything else. But the black sand is spendy so with cost as a factor in my bigger tanks I would use play sand. It has a nice natural color and the granules aren't to big or small.

OK here is the seceret for sand ....... Go to a place called Manufactored Minerals on Monster Road in Renton, this is where most pet stores buy their bulk sand from(I know that places like A Place For Pets buys from them). They sell to the public and it's super cheap(around .10 per pound)!!!!! They have the black sand, all types of Lapis Luster, and different color and sized gravels, it's a winner for sure.....
