Mate for a Jack Dempsey?

Ive a 4in Male JD, and id like to try and get a pair from him. i know its alittle late....but thought id see what some opinions are. ive had a pair before, but sold them cause of money issues. ive raised this one since late jan, and he is relatively calm ( has 2 blue acaras and a firemouth male as tankmates). those 3 others would be moved to a diff tank, but my main question is this:

If i get 5< (or more) in with him and him only, do you think hed pair with one if theres a female in the group? the only prob i see is that when i order them from the LFS, they come in about 2in. will they pair if so small, or should i not even attempt this? like i said, i know its kinda late....

how about if i got a 4in female? would they pair, or likely fight? im not desperate, but id love to make this work - his coloration is amazing.....perfect for breeding. any ideas??
