~~~Making My Own Food~~~
My attempt to making my own food.
Flounder fillets I actually used only 3 fillets. They were smaller
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
2 tilapia fillets. They were altogether a thicker fillet.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Half a handful of frozen while krill. It's all I had.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
1 1/2 cups of Kens xtreme pellets used as a filler.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Roughly 2 oz of VitaChem just an all purpose vitamin. ( if there are any better ones out there please fill me in)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Roughly (just eye balled it) 8 oz of frozen scallops.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Roughly (eye balled it again) 7 oz frozen shrimp. I peeled them.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The ingriedients minus the pellet filler.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Finale result. After one broken blender haha. I had to use the magic bullet to finish it off
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
In the freezer now and will try it in the morning. I'm going to laugh if my fish don't eat it. But hey this was my first attempt at making my own food. I think it's high in protien and minimal in moister. Anyway any experienced food makers out there please comment I can take advice. Or if something was done wrong or could have been better just let me know.
Oh actually I didn't. I have some minced too. Think it's too late? It's already frozen.
Yea, I think it's too late.
Unless you want to defrost, blend it all again.
Next time add peas without the casings.
As for the garlic: fresh cloves, squeeze out the juices over your next batch, proceed to mix.
Re: ~~~Making My Own Food~~~
Cool, thanks protocl!
Ok I just tried it. My Red Tiger Mota I just got yesterday ( thanks halp) hit it with out hesitation. A little convict Texas cross hit it the same. And my pictus loved it. None of the dovii even mouthed it. I may try to fast them a day or two. Oh and the little pink con ate the pieces that broke off.
Re: ~~~Making My Own Food~~~
Ok I'll add some beef heart to the next one but probably won't be much I heard it isn't good for them. And as far as buying next go around I'll make enough for two freezer bags and you can have one to
try it out yourself.
Re: ~~~Making My Own Food~~~
cool, I did the same thing. Mine is in the freezer also. I added:
Veggies: spinach, peas, green beans, cooked carrots, kelp, zucchini
Meats: talapia fillets, shrimp, clams, beef heart, whitet fish, krill, squid
cup of various fish pellets, 1/2 cup of dry brine shrimp and plankton,
8 cloves of minced garlic, multi vitamins,
and me too, one blender which no longer works.
Sweet. Yours sounds to hit the food pyramid way better then mine does. I didn't think to try any veggies most of what read about my fish is they eat meats. Fish krill shrimp things of that nature. I didn't see any say they needed veggies but I'll add some in my next batch.
I have no idea what the deal with the blenders lol.
The veggies add more fiber, I think the multi-vitamins do a better job.
None the less, both go hand in hand.
never thought of that. I will try that. Why freeze them, just throw them into the blender.
Re: ~~~Making My Own Food~~~
Success. All my fish hit it with the intent to KILL. They don't just ease up to it my rtm hears it hit the water. The Bigger dovii see him eating then rush him. The little hybrid fish is facing off with a small dovii for the scraps. I mean they are hitting it hard!
Re: ~~~Making My Own Food~~~
you need to add Unflavored gelatin... It helps hold everything together so it dosent desolve all over the place..
Re: ~~~Making My Own Food~~~
Doza- I actually thought of that after the fact. Hey it was my first try I've been in the hobby less then a year so all my blogs are my trial and error so I can learn and hopefully help other people out later. But I do appreciate the heads up wish I would have thought of it sooner cause the worse part is that it is messy.
Re: ~~~Making My Own Food~~~
I understand.. Just throwing out a hint if you didnt already think of it I still feed my mbuna mix and i put gelatin in mine and it still makes a mess.. Definatly make sure you put enough gelatin and wait untill your sure its fully solidified.
Looks great tho man... Curious if you put more shrimp in if it would help bring out coloration on the fish?? Kind of a natural dye..??
You know, that is something to look into. I know it works on flimingos. Why not fish? That's some food for thought no doubt.
