Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
2.5 wont be for a while, but im still gonna do it. Might even just do seahorses in the ten gallon.
But on another note, THE FUCKING TURBO SNAIL WENT ON A RAMPAGE WHILE I WAS GONE. Drug the purple zoa all around the tank, found it behind the tavern, and knowck all the others over or into the sand. HE quickly got his ass dropped in the 20. Larson was trying to bite me the whole time I was trying to get the coral of course. Dx

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
HAHAHA you will find that you have to glue the frags down or critters will carry them off and knock them over all the time. I found my starfish crawling across the front of the tank the other day carrying one of my acan colonies along with it. Don't know where he thought he was taking it, but I took it away from him and put it back where I had it. I use superglue gel to glue things down with.

LOL thats great. Such a neat little starfish, takin his buddies for a ridee. What specific kind do you use to glue them down?lilfishie wrote:HAHAHA you will find that you have to glue the frags down or critters will carry them off and knock them over all the time. ![/quote]
You want to use a generous amount. You can take the coral piece out of the water to apply the glue to it. When you put it back in the water, the glue is going to film over. When you place it on the rock where you want to glue it to, scrape it around to break the film layer and force some of the glue to stick to the rock and them press it down firmly for just a moment. It will take hold quickly. You can use a pair of cutting plyers to cut the post off the frag plug or just place the post in a hole in the rock. The zoas will multiply and cover the plug.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Lewis and Larson in the 16 gallon bowfront, downgraded them to the 10 gallon. This was the first day I had Larson, she still gets along GREAT with Lewis, the one before her would dive bomb his sides and fin nip.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Just my cremcicle Molly. Not "technically" a saltwater fish, but he's converted!!! My 90 was supposed to be a reef tank, but then I found out Winston wouldn't go well with corals (this is pre-SW knowledge lol) and then the lighting situation was SO expensive... As soon as I can get my own place I'm going to do a large community SW reef! So excited, I'll have plenty of cardinals and I'll name one Lars. Just for you.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
LOL In the 2 months that I've had them, Sterling has about tripled. In TWO MONTHS! He's up to about 5/6 inches. Lanna is staying about 2-3. She won't grow! Weird.

Aww jealous! I'm kind of nervous to keep those because of how hard feeding them is. I've done lots of research and most people say a lot of them die because they don't eat well in captivity

Yes...That is horrible, although I am LMAO too. I'm sorry, its funny. It just keeps expanding. You should be able to cut it out. I dont think it will stick to the glass although I'm not entirely sure about that. You need a slightly bigger tank for those little guys anyway. You will wish you went bigger anyway. 10 gal would be a good size. Give you some room for a coulpe pieces of gorgonian for the little guys to hang on to.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Yeah, Im just gonna make the 2.5 a planted FW tank, tiny tiny, prolly no fish. But even I crack up looking at the pictures now lol
I dont even know how I would fit equipment in there, got it all hollowed out though, doesnt look half bad, jus gotta scrape the crap off the front of the glass.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Got 2 heaters in the 20 gallon, gonna throw the clowns in tonight, coral in a few days if things go well
Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
sounds great! although watch out, dont add fish to fast. oh and btw, my friend bought that clown that you were adoring sorry lol. anyways, for the 2.5 i bet you could pull off a nice little shrimp mayhem garden or a TINY betta tank.... lil to small for a betta though. add some shrimp and maybe a few minor pencilfish (smallest american fish less then 1 inch) and it would look awsome!

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build

The tanks been running prolly 3 weeks, with cycled LR and sand, already Diatom bloomed, ammonias at zero.
Yeah I wouldnt put a ish in the 2.5 WAYYYY to small, ill look into pencilfish, never heard of em. Sent you a pm to

Pickin up some cheap coral frags from a guy in Port Orchard after work on Thursday, cant wait to finally get a green stripped mushroom!

lars on wrote:Found out seahorses hate water flow. Also found out most people said it is harder to run a 2.5 gallon SW tank than keeping sea horses.
But found an article on how someone used a modded Hagen Aquaclear 70 as a sump/refugium on their 2.5 pico seahorse tank. And just by chance I got one 2 days ago, so YAY. Got the carbon bag today, gonna smash up some remaining live rock and start this puppy up!
The smaller the tank the more difficullt it is to keep anything, Seahorses From what I hear are extremely sensitive as well.. Well only being 2.5 gallons that does not leave alot of room for error...
Looks F ' N Sweet though

Different horses, same care level. They are difficult. They can not take a change in water parameters or quality. They are all very fragile.
Not to discourage you though.
I gave it a try. I had a mated pair for about 6 months. Then I had an issue with my new saltwater mix having a high ammonia level and didnt realize it and lost both of them. Then with the high ammonia came a lot of bad algae. I took everything out of that tank, cleaned it up and went back to fish. Being gone 13 hours a day, I could not care for seahorses they way they need to be cared for. I loved these guys. Really upsetting to loose them.
