Ditto, dont scrap it. It will be a cool little planted tank for some little fish. Hey, my cardinalis killi would do just fine in there.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
i agree, just stick with what you can acomplish, saltwater is a hard hobby. dont add stuff other than some easy corals till the tank is done cycling. please, just trust me with that. lol the 2.5gallon shoulc be finished. if not ill take it LOL! ill finish it for you and give it back if you supply me with some corals on thursday

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
OH!! Guys im abandoning the seahorses, Im gonna make the 2.5 an extremely small Mizube tank.
O: lilfishie your killies would fit in there?
lol, I always cycle ALL my tanks, my saltwater makes me paranoid about adding stuff, had it running almost 2.5 months before fish.
DUDDEEEEEEEEE, maybe ill make the 2.5 a tinsey tiney frag tank, I think it would be bitchin to get some polyps growing on the walls when its all cemented up

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
a 2.5 is WAY to unstable for frags, if you HAD to have a saltwater tank in there i would go a kenya tree (one of the hardiest corals every) and maybe a cleaner shrimp. pretty much, i wouldnt do it.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Well as long as the lighting will support coral and the water quality is stable for coral, you can do a reef tank in at 2.5.
Heres a 2gal pico tank
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I've seen a 1 gal reef tank with live shrimp that probably only had a half gal of water in it. If I can find the thread, I'll post it.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Yeah Ive seen the pico tanks, how much light would you reccomend? Or i guess I could look it up myself.
I wouldnt put fish in it though, just be a very tiny coral tank.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
I found a tiny light for a pico tank, 13 watts, half blue half white 15$
is 13 watts not enough light for a 2.5?

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
13 watts should be just fine.
Take a look at this thread. It a 9"x9"x9" cube

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Im gonna hold off on the 2.5 and make my now old 10 gallon saltwater a frag tank. Pickin up some more coral tomorrow, mushrooms and maybe some other things, and hopefully a sea anemone in the next 2 weeks.
Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Aquascaped the 20 and both clowns are now in it. LOVE the new space they have
10 gallon is gonna be the new frag tank, its only inhabtatn will be the stupid hermit crab and maybe a fish

spare 2.5
That still leaves the 2.5 open for seahorses......

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
They are all healthy now, the kenya trees. All streached out and fully extended! Really pretty. But Im gonna try and put a little rack in on one corner so the hermit will stop bulldozing everything.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
A little starfish has come to life in my tank! Its body is about 1/4th an inch, and he has no legs!!! But they starting to grow back, and hes moving realy fast with his newly grown tentacles! He already moved probably 2 feet, and thats when I noticed him.
Both the clowns attacked him at first but now they have lost interest.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Anemones need high light to live. they will move around until they find the place that they get what they need to live. He is not going to settle down under that bottle. He will only die there. Please let him out and let him find his spot that he feels comfortable in. If your using that light I gave you, it may not be enough lighting for him.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
even if I turn it up all the way, 100 watts may not be enough? ):
If I take the bottle off him all he does is float around
// I flipped the cup trapy thing over and hes linging in it

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
If anything, turn the flow down for a while and put him in a low flow area where he can attach himself to the rock. He will then walk around the rocks looking for a good spot. If the lighting is not enought for him, he will set himself loose in the current to hopefully land somewhere with more lighting. Thats why alot of them end up in powerheads. They are not happy where they are for either lighting or water quality reasons.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
ohh, okay. So its normal for them to like just float float? Because its shown no signs of even TRYING to root. I kinda held it to a small rock kfor like 30 seconds and its kinda sticking, but he slipping, and he just fell off the rock.
I dont know whats wrong with it!! Its probably bleached, but it had no foot injuries!

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Notice the one in this first picture. The white with pink tips. This anemone is badly bleached out and sick. Once they get to this point, they usually do not survive. I got it with about 60 lbs of live rock. The previous owner couldnt find it to get it out so it came with the rock. It moved constantly. Here is a good site for amenome info. I moved it to my hospital tank and fed it every day table shrimp and krill and mysis. I actually nursed it back to better health. This is him 6 months later. They should look more like this. He still was not happy under pc lighting and he went on the move floating in the water column and got caught in a power head.

Yeah they are kindof pretty bleached out, but they are only bleached because they are sick. Not so cool. The clownfish, Frita, was a rescue too.
Anemones live on algae that grows inside them. Its actually a plankton of some kind. Its mentioned in the link I posted, I believe. The algae is fed by good lighting and good water quality continues to grow and feed the anemone. If the anemone becomes distressed it will expell the algae/plankton and then starve to death usually. If it can get the lighting it needs to rejuvinate the growth of the algae it can survive. They will realease them selves and float in the current, which usually takes them closer to the surface where they get more light.
Oh, try building your rock structure higher and see if he stays on it at the top. That is were the one is in my video.

Re: 20 gallon Reef tank build
Yeah, if that is bleached then mine is BLEACHED. Almost a flourecent green. But I think its dead. Lews had some white dots on him, prolly from trying to get in the anemone. ):
But the clown is so pretty!!
