Angels not eating
This is my first experience with angels breeding so I don't know. They stopped eating about 1 day before they laid eggs. They still are not eating the day after laying eggs. I want to make sure they are full so they won't eat the eggs. Is this normal?

Re: Angels not eating
Yes, it can be for sure.. Weather they eat or not, they will or will not eat the eggs.
Some take a while to become good Parents and some are just not good parents. If you don't have them by themselves here it would be a good Idea to do so..
Patience is the key. You can always remove the eggs if they have laid on a subject where it is removable and then use Meth Blue so no Fungus.. etc..
Good Luck and always fun !!

Ive never seen good angel parents ever..... they have been pulled and bread so much by us I think they completely forgot how... So honestly, i would pull them and raise the fry by yourself, this will get you the most babies!

Re: Angels not eating
I've had in the past a couple of Parents here and Great Parent Raisers btw.
They Guard those eggs/ fry like crazy !! but, you need to remove them anyways, due to the fact that the fry will / do munch on their bodies / slim coat etc. adds stress to the Parents etc.. It's not like Discus, where it basically is a must to have the fry in with the parents due to the fact that those parents have a nutritional value ( Slimecoat) for the fry to feed off of.. But that only lasts for so long as well. And artifically raising Discus is no simple matter. Angelfish, heck, no biggie.. ( get your brineshrimp hatchery going and off you go !)

Re: Angels not eating
My angel fish female just laid eggs and she was eating within minutes afterwards. She laid the eggs last night about midnight she was done and at this morning at about 11. So I'm not sure what to tell you. My male was eating the ggs so I won't have babies cause he won't fertilize them. He just eats them. I wanted babies! lol How big of a tank do you have yours in?

Re: Angels not eating
They will tend to do this if in a Community Tank ... Too much pressure and from others wanting to get at them as well..
Run them in a 20 gallon BB tank and just work with them. It takes a while sometimes for the Parents to get the hang of it. Some do, some don't. In that case let them lay and watch for him to follow up after her. Make sure you have a Female/ Male for starters..
Once the eggs are deposited / Fertilized by Male, then if you wish, Pull the ( whatever you have them depositing on ) Slate/ PVC is the Choice in this particular set up and put the eggs in a small container. I just use a 2.5 or 10 gallon and make sure it's setup for them. ( Heater, 82-85 deg. ) and a Airstone . Add Meth Blue to keep those eggs from Fungus.. 7 to 8 days BOOM !! Some lay large batches and some don't btw..
Some really like their privacy as well.. My Breeder tanks all are BB and are covered on all
3 sides personally.... One side Facing out only accessible..

Re: Angels not eating
I even breed my angels in a community tank, and one pair is perfect at it, great protecters in the next day or so whenever they become free swimming i will be siphoning them into a bucket and putting them into their own tank, but i like the parents to get them to that stage on their own if possible. Giving them a few chances can work.
