Keep an eye on those tank temps!
Searched and couldn't find the thread I thought we had going on this. But watch those tank temps. With it being so hot, even though your heaters are not turned on. The ambient temp can push your tanks into the 85+ range with a light on etc.
Things you can do to help:
Keep the light off
Float a frozen water bottle in it each day.
Open the top of the aquarium.
Blow a fan across top of the water for evaporation cooling.
Here at the shop it's hard to get water much colder than 76 or so. Because the ground temp has heated up so much. So cold water changes won't exactly fix the problem.

84F after I got home from the highland games today. Luckily tap water is still cool.
For the heavily plant tanks, I thought I remember reading that plants produce CO2 when the lights aren't on. The higher temps already contain lower oxygen levels, so if what I read is true, wouldn't leaving the lights off be a bad thing?

Re: Keep an eye on those tank temps!
I have had a 20 gallon tank outside for about a month or so now, and have been able to control the temp well by keeping it uncovered but shading it during the hottest part of the day. I use 2 chairs and suspend a piece of cardboard above the tank from about 1PM that blocks the sun for the rest of the day, and the guppies in there seem fine. I think the combination of evaporation during the day and your usual cooling at night has kept temps reasonable. I have only noticed the tank getting up to just over 80 in the afternoon, which is not ideal for guppies, but I don't think it has killed any of them yet
I don't know how this will go later in the summer, if it just keeps getting hotter, but for now it's been getting cool enough to swing the temps back down. Anyone else have other ideas for keeping outdoor tubs/tanks cool? Those seem like they would be maybe the most vulnerable

Thank you. I was worried. Dad says nothing to worry about I am trying to keep under 80 degrees.
