Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
Petsmart is having a $2 per gallon sale. This includes hood & light combos. Might not be that bad if you compare the Petco $1 per gallon for the tank only. By the time you add on those extras probably same or more expensive.

I just promised (on my own) to get rid of 2 empty tanks. A 10 gallon hex and a 16 gallon bowfront. I don't care for either of them anyways.

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
That is cool!
Ive been looking at both the sale at Petco and Petsmart. I am looking at either a 20L or 29g to slip under my 40B. I think if I went with the one at Petsmart it is the better deal because a top at F&S would be $15.29 + $5.99 shipping = $21.28. If I ordered $49 worth I would get free shipping but I dont need anything right now. So getting a 20L for $2 a gallon at Petsmart with top and light is a bit better of a deal. Might not be so much for the bigger tanks.

A 20L is what I was considering to get as well. I have to drive the same amount to get to either of them however, the petco one would be without tax. hmmm.

If you were doing the upgrade for the puffer you should do at least a 29g. Same footprint as the 20L but a bit more water volume to handle the excess waste from their diet.

I plan on buying an aqua clear to go on the tank too. It says 30 gallons per puffer but he's still only about an inch and had. I've had him for 2 years and hasn't grown hardly at all if any.

Sounds like you have a runt. On the Puffer Forum, one member spoke of hers going from 2" to 6" in 2 years. I'm okay with him being a runt he's a pretty cute little submarine. I like his size. But wouldn't be upset if he grew either. I'd say he's lucky to be alive since the previous owner told me after I got him that she purchased him from Walmart! Ack!

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
There is the problem... Walmart
Well the wife did not flinch at all when I mentioned another tank... so I am going to measure the spot I have under the 40B and see if I can fit either a 20L or 29g in there. I really have no plans for the tank but it may just be for puffer food at this point.

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
Yeah, I figured the walmart thing was part of the problem.
Awesome you get another tank! I'm excited to upgrade mine. My mom does have a 30 gallon (29) stand just sitting at her house. Now to decide if I want to use that or make something different and to get either a 20 or a 29 hmmm. The stand used to be mine and she put the tank else where and doesn't need the stand. But it's light colored and I don't care for it. I wonder if I can re-stain it?

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
Oohh that gives me a good idea I could hide a smaller tank with a sponge filter inside, no need for a light since it would be for snails as puffer food as well

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
kilo you could restain it but its going to be difficult. its probably going to take a stripper of some sort (if it was a mixed stain/varnish combo) once the wood has been really stripped down you just sand it all up by hand or with a power sander, then just restain in a darker color. it may be a work in progress as if you missed any areas it wont take the new stain very well. GL to ya!

Ive spray painted a ton of stands. I use the Rustoleum black in a satin finish. The satin is the way to go, it looks very professional when finished.

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
just be extra cautious on spraypaint. overspray is hard to cover. lots of light coats is what works for me. with at least 10-20min between sprayings.

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
I tend to rush the paint so the satin finish will allow for a few errors and not show up as much.

Awesome!! Now to decide 20L or standard for a GSP and maybe a scat (if I can find a smaller sized one) and knight gobies.

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
The Petsmart sale does not include the 20L. It does have the 29g with the black silicone for $58.
You will need to do the Petco sale to get a 20L

Hmm I can't seem to find a scat or mono that doesn't require 125+ gallons either. Well that is readily available in the hobby.

Seems like some keep a small type goby with the puffers.

That's the knight goby I was considering. They are pretty neat looking. And would stand out against plants.

Re: Petsmart tank sale $2 per gallon
Do you know if your puffer will accept tankmates? What about a molly? They stay small enough and could be brackish...
