Got a 200 gallon tank and 4 discus now
Greetings! Started my aquarium (200 Gallon) with 4 discus.
Right now keeping my discus @ 78F. But planning to increase it to 81 sooner.
Also, what kind of UV sterilizer I would need? I think do I need one or not is out of question with whatever I read till with Discus now. pls help.
I am planning to use this tank for discus only.

I would raise the temp a little more 84 would be much better for them. Would love to see pics!! Who did you get your Discus from?

Generally any of the inexpensive ($200 or less) UV's will only really help with green water control and not do anything for parasite/disease control. I use a 36W Turbo Twist on my 210g plumbed into an FX5. It helps keep the water crystal clear but really not necessary in my application. Plus I do not change out my bulbs as frequently as I should to get the full effect.

Yeah. I did research about UV filter's and don't see much worth in them for the money. I am confident to keep the green algae out with regular maintenance and 14" pleco.

The UV will help if you get a green tinge to your water, otherwise it really does nothing for the surface type algae. I used to get a bit of green in the water due to the fact my tank is close to a window. Thats why I did my UV.

id also dump the yellow labs. mbuna are just going to be far too spunky around discus imo. id swap them out for a large group of tetras (take ur pick of anything that maxes over 2'') i would also pick up some large wood pieces, maybe add substrate, and maybe some light planting. i think just a tiny bit more in the way of natural decor will help bring out their personality. good luck to ya, i think that tank is a GREAT start tho
