Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
I cannot see the color of the fish in your pictures..... So, really hard to tell what kind of fish it is... obviously a african rift lake cichlid, but I did notice you had a jewel cichlid in there, although it is from africa, it does like a lower PH than the rift lake cichlids, so i dont know what your keeping your water parameters at?
Anyway, If I am going to take a stabb in the dark, Acei Cichlid maybe? I had a couple with white on the bottom fin, lighter like yellow dorsal fin, and purple/blueish body?? but, Like I said, I really cant see from the pictures you took.... Nice set up though

I don't think acei's should be showing that level of barring, and the body shape doesn't seem quite elongated enough. I would guess it's something in the Metriaclima or perhaps Pseudotropheous families, but it looks a bit young and probably doesn't have it's full color yet. Definitely would need better pic's to be certain.

Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
bein as my room is well naturally lit its hard to get pic in the day in tht tank. but i will get better ones tonight when its only tank light.
Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
better pictures would be helpful its not a ACI there blue with yellow fins have never seen them with bars ... but kinda looks fuzzy but might be a rusty hybrid i have one that's purple with dark bars (when he wants to) and orange/yellow type fins

Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
you may be right on that one but i do know depends on what petsmart you go to depends on what they have i have found venustus there i didn't think they would carry, but for the most part they only have the common stuff, thats why i quit getting fish from there... not to mention there lucky to last a week from there, well at least my luck

Petsmart in Tukwila sells plenty of peacocks, so it is very possible. They have a "Mixed African" tank that you can find some interesting fish in..lol

I'm thinking he could be a young male Metriaclima greshakie. Color doesn't look quite right, but the body shape does and the barring is perfect.

Ice Blue, Larry? Coloration is all wrong. Maybe stress induced, but looks wrong. I agree on stripes and body shape though.

Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
Well, I'm thinking it's a juvie. The fin color looks wrong, but I think the body color would be right. It would lighten up more over time if it's juvie. My females are much darker than than one, although there does seem to be some variation in body color for the females.

Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
Thoughs fins arent yellow or orange?? Lol... thats what I thought i saw in the picture... I know petsmart sells lots of ice blue, aceii, and some mixed africans, usually labs, and zebra's..... I would go back to the petsmart, look at the little tab that you got him out of the tank, they usually say what types of fish are in each tank.

Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
Even the assorted african tank usually have a lil tab with the names of the fish in there.... Doesnt it have 3 different african fish pictured on the tab??? Itleast thats what the petsmart in everett does.... IDK?? Maybe there is someone like "regan" in there that knows the fish, Im pretty sure they order from african northwest, so they may know what they ordered

Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
Actually, I'm beginning to wonder if it might be a Labidochromis sp "Hongi"juvie... at least, that's what the dorsal fin color looks like to me. I've never kept those so I'm not really sure.

The jeweling on the cheek makes me wonder and kind of makes me lean more towards weird hybrid.

No, there are a couple Rift lake guys that have that jewel on the cheek.... actually I had one, it was blueish in color and had thoughs stripes.... I gotta look up what I had, maybe thats what this one is! OH!, I had a kenyi.... has the same metallic jewel on the cheek, and the same stripes, but the fin color on yours is different... So, My final answer, Kenyi & Acei cross....(pictures attached) LMAO.... I got nothing on this one... sorry man.

Re: 2 Fish Cichlids of some sort
I suppose I'll add my guess as well... Because it's from Petsmart and I had one when I first started with cichlids, I'm going to say it (might be) a poor quality or possibly a hybrid M. greshakei. That's what mine was identified as on a cichlid forum years ago.

heres a updated photo... and he/she looks like a darker smaller version of Larry.beck's Large male Greshakei.. just not as elegantly colored or as big, as its body is a more brownish blue i cant capture with my camera as are the spots on the rear of the dorsal fin.. someone nipped on his ventrals so they are recovering.. its about 2 inches now(almost double of original pics)..
