Korean Food Why Are You So GOOD?!
Ever since my friend introduced me to Jajangmeon, back in my high school days, I've been obsessed over trying new Korean foods. Mmm...
Then when I lived in the Philippines (college days), I had a Korean neighbour/dorm mate, who would prepare Korean foods and would share them with me. I can't remember all the different types of kimchi there were, but oh my gosh, so good.
If there's a kind of food that I would pig out on, it's Korean food.
Today, I got Deokboki (Rice cakes and fish cakes served with a sweet hot sauce and veggies, spam and garlic fried rice, two side orders of fish cakes, and the typical side dishes that usually come with Korean food. MMMMMMM..... This will all be eaten by myself. I'm so HUNGRY.
Anyone else have any favorite Korean dishes? Bulgogi? Mmm... Kal Guk Soo? MMMMM.... Kimbap? Bibimbap? MMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly half the stuff I have no idea what its named. That is sad since my mom is Korean and I was born there. But in my defense I came to the US when I was three and my mom really did not use Korean in our house. I never know it to be 'Korean' food, for me it was just food.
Nice point about the kimchi, many do not know that there is more than just the typical cabbage type. I like the cucumber kimchi and also water kimchi.

Funny, I'm sorta the same way, but with Filipino food. I was born in the Philippines, and then we moved here to Washington State when I was 11 months old. Grew up here, and my mom cooked Filipino dishes, I didn't really learn the names of the dishes, until I was in middleschool, when I first started getting a liking to cooking.
Since then, I've gotten intouch with my filipino roots, when I went back to the Philippines for college, and that really made me understand and appreciate our filipino culture much more. Granted, I still like to make fun of filipinos. LOL...

I have not been back to Korea yet. My family has come to visit and have stayed with my wife and I. Maybe one day I will make it there and get 'real' Korean food.

Now you've made me hungry. My boyfriend is irish and loves his potatoes but has gotten hooked on thai food. I make quite a bit of 'stir fry' dishes as is but now I'm trying to perfect curry for his taste buds.

I love Thai food, I make the best peanut chicken. Maybe we should have a WA fish box potluck!

Re: Korean Food Why Are You So GOOD?!
We have an awesome couple of Korean places nearby (I live in korean town...) and I am hooked on too many dishes that I don't know the real names for. There is a little korean bar near my place that sells a dish described as "sliced meat... 8.95"... that is capsaicin heaven. They also have a "octopus pankake... 7.95" that I'm sure is some sort of pajeon that is amazing. Someday I'll go to Korea and explore more... only to find out that they call these dishes the same over there!

Wafishbox potluck sounds like fun! Perhaps during the summer we could do a picnic of some sort!
Re: Korean Food Why Are You So GOOD?!

I usually can't do the swap meets, because I work on Saturdays at the Co-Op... so... yeah. :\

I like bulgogi. And I also remember getting tiny little deep fried shrimp from street vendors -- they were packaged in a cone of newspaper -- so good. (I liked in Korea for a year.)

Korean food can be very cheap to make at home... learn to cook it Try making some kimchee (and do it right by burying it outside!) If it turns out good, bring it to a pot luck!!!

MrTom: Mmmm... I've been watching a lot of Maanchi's videos on youtube, and that just makes me even hungrier. =P I wish the ingredients were easy to find on this side of the Puget Sound. Perhaps when I make a trip out to Seattle, I'll keep those ingredients in mind.
