He is a very outgoing little fish. Races along the tank to greet me, so far gets along with the bichirs and the rainbows.....

That's a darn beautiful fish. I wish I had a tank large enough, I'd scope up some of Madness' fry of this species. Much better looking than the normal midas and red devils.

I was not too sure about keeping it my 72g bowfront but its 4ft long and plenty wide enough to turn around. madness big male is not too bulky of a fish so I figured I could do it. Seems like most bull males only hit about 13" with these isletas.

I know you have had good success with the krill so I think I will try that too. These fish have good genes for the large hump head. I have been tempted to try some color enhancing foods also. I know care needs to be exercised with some of these products. But some of the flowerhorn foods really can intensify the reds. Any thoughts on these?

I've heard of two but haven't tried them yet. One was called grand sumo and one was called humpy head..... Both increase head size. As for color, I think your current mix will be awesome.

Hikari has a new pellet that is not yet available in the US. It is geared toward parrots but the results (if real) are pretty awesome.
It is called Hikari Blood-Red Parrot+

Yep new stuff. I asked the Hikari rep on another site about it and there might be a possibility it will get brought in but only available from eBay sellers at the moment.

I was looking for a Bollywood tank theme. Not really, I just clicked on the only eBay link I found when I googled the new Hikari pellets.

Re: New Amp sp. red isletas in the house
Dmd, now that's funny!
From the forum The only things heard was from a guy in India that said that it brought out some red in his blood pellet but his parrot was already orange red. He also said his fish grew fast with it. But it was dirty ...... Which to me sounds like a few brands they we can already get here. I also looked at grand sumo and the head booster pellets found at a flowerhorn store in San Diego.... Both expensive! A little better priced in Amazon, but amazon also carried a couple of other brands which I personally haven't heard of, but had crazy high protein counts (50%+) ..... But you've got a good thing going already so I wouldn't experiment with other brands.
I will note that my wc Midas' hump has deflated a lot since the removal of a female in his tank...... As I haven't adjusted the foods to him. So you may need to get a female at some point if you really want a large hump!

Re: New Amp sp. red isletas in the house
The high protein is supposed to contribute to head growth and he does share the tank with the bichirs that get fed the hikari sinking carnivore which does put on serious growth. I still have a ton of small floating pellets including the Hikari Bio-Gold + which is also designed as a higher protein item. And I still have NLS for coloration. So tons of good food for the little guy.
