so sad day in my house today

So got up today to my guttulas pair dead. By far one of my new favorite pairs I grew them up from about 2inches to 7-8 for the male and 5-6 for the female and they laid in batch of egg. then durning the last spawning period he beat up on her, so I put a divider in and things were fine was givin the tank a lil melfixs to help with healin process. So last nite sum time my lil gurl (who is 5yrs old)went in to the room were they were and dumped the bottle of melafix in the tank and they were dead this morin so iam super bumped out. Very sad day at my house

Ahh...that's terrible news! Sorry for your loss!

aww man.. that stinks. surprised that the melafix actually killed them but i guess you must have had a large bottle of the stuff.

Yeah it was the big bottle in a 30gal tank was a lil too much I think and thanks guys

yeah close to a liter of anything in a 30 gal isnt a good recipe hopefully you can get some new adults to get going again. sure sucks to lose a favorite fish/species

Very sorry to hear about your fish but I am very happy your child didn't think it was something she could drink (it does have a 'sweet' smell). This is a good reminder to keep fish chemicals out of the reach of our children.

sorry to hear... One of mine passed last saturday too so I feel your pain...

Thanks everybody..and she did think she was helpin and iwas put up high on a shelf she got it down sum how iam assumin she use the chair and then put the chair back she is pretty sneaky lil gurl and covers her tracks..too mich like me I guess...lol..but its my fault cuz she thought she was helpin me and the fish cuz I explained to her the situation. Thanks yall I really needed the support cuz I didnt realize how much I really did like them cuz I watched them grow up from 2inch fry to good size sub adults and was workin on them being a good breedin pair for me but dam it. They didn't make it. So back to the drawing board I guess. Its just how fish keeping is they come and the go they don't live forever. Its just the cylce of life.

I hear ya... sometimes you do everything you can to take care of these little guys. Sometimes things go well, others, stuff happens. I've had species of fish where after disaster, I keep trying (clown killies?) and others where I've thrown in the towel (apistos). What matters is appreciating how much they change your life when they are with you, and the great experiences they expose you to in the process. Gotta love this hobby
