Here we are, more babies
They have emerged. But not too far. Dad wont let them get outside of the rim of the hole. One of them ventured out along the rock and dad came up and shewed him/her back into the hole with his tail. It was so cute. I count 9 so far.
Heres the babies and dad

Those BN's make great fathers! very cool how he corrals them.
Could you post a picture of the males head, I'd like to see how the bristle are developing . . . thanks!!
Oh, I ended up selling the stiphodon tonight, the Fish Store has more, females too but they need brackish water to have any hope of spawning.

No, its not an albino. I dont think anyway. Just his underbelly. A couple of them from what I can see have some really neat patterns on them though.
Give me a few weeks on the trade. I'd like these guys to get a little bigger before letting them go. They just officially left their cave early yesterday.

These dont get really big do they? Are they slow growing? How much time does it take to get to full maturity?

They get to about 5" long full grown. They grow fairly rapidly. They are a half inch in length now and should be an inch long in about 3 weeks. At about another month after that They will become available. They should be about 1.5" long by then.

I'm probably your age, but I have yet to see Rocky Horror Picture Show in its entirety. I've seen bits and pieces here and there. Yeah, I've seen "It". I've seen all steven kings movies. Well except Misery. I wont watch that one.

obviously old is relative, but old for this crowd doesn't take much . . . no slam there!!
and "yes" in ref to RHPS, I've seen it probably 10 times, the Varsity theater use to show it every friday night for . . . wow, it was many many years (10?), my fav was the night everyone dressed up like their favorite character and they had a custome judging contest on the stage before the movie . . . there is a ton of audience participation too, people throw rice during the wedding scene, they bring squirt guns and umbrellas for the rain scene and yell for Brad to "kick the tire" just prior to when he does it . . a total hoot.

Re: Here we are, more babies
Just an update. There were 29 babies in that batch. I have 17 left. Actually 5 of those are spoken for.
I now have about another 30 just emerging from there egg stage.
Thank goodness I picked up a FREE 40 gal tank and stand today. I am going to move the older babies to the 40. Id like to move them all. We'll see if I can manage to do that before they all emerge from the cave.
Anyone interested in them let me know.

Terrible internet here, sadly. I guess it is just a desire of mine to find someone with experience putting bones in a tank.

Real animal bones? Should be able to just boil the crap out of them for a few hours and then bake them at a low temp (approx 325 degrees) for an hour or so to dry it out and kill anything that might be left on it and then soak it in fresh treated water or RO/DI water for a few days with daily 100% water changes.

Re: Here we are, more babies
Well I now have a designated tank for just the plecos and other babies only for raising. Currently in the tank is DAD! and approx 50 baby BN plecos and 3 baby bosemani rainbows and 2 baby guppies.
It a 40 gal long. Not bad for a free tank.

That is what it is. Haven't had any issues with this it or my water params. Had this rock in my tanks for over a year now. Thanks for the warning though.

WOW! 50 bn pleco! your gonna flood the industry with them! lol, luckily they are my fav pleco so i dont mind,
I just got a free 40 gal too... mine is not as nearly as good as shape as yours, it was free.... Im gonna use it for the same purpose as you.... well, mine will be minus the substrate and decor... strictly sponge filter, heater, water... nice and simple... easier to clean and water changes to make thoughs guys grow out quickly.

Re: Here we are, more babies
I am setting up a bunch of small tanks in the other room for hatching eggs and raising killi fish and bosemani rainbow fry. Once they are so big they will go into this 40 and then put up for sale when they are big enough. I am holding off on breeding the plecos any more. I also have an albino longfin BN and am waiting for one of my babies to get old enough to sex it and see if I can pair her up with one of my males. We will see what happens with that in the next 3-4 months. I think I am going to sell my mated pair. They are a proven pair, no doubt about that! I will have to post new pics of the parents. The male has gotten really pretty. IMO anyway!
