After seeing this great picture I found some Christmas moss & trying to grow it in my tank. What type of grass is that around the moss? Is this a type of fern, or short sword?

It's needle leaf java fern tied to a branch. Much more manageable than regular java ferns.

Nice! I just started a planted tank. Like the looks of the needle leaf Java. I may switch over from the normal Java fern I have.
I liked the effect of the Anubias growing up on the branch too. I have a huge piece of bog wood with a branch sticking straight up. I just clipped a small runner of Anubias and attached it to the branch. I dig this forum, I get great ideas from here.

What do y'all think is growing on the bog wood? Green hair algae or some sort of moss? My lobster grazes on it...

does it get long and fuzzy or stay short and clipped? does it flow with the water or not move?

if it stays short and just spreads its the same type of algae the "moss balls" are or close to it, we have it growing over logs in two tanks and it looks awesome.

Yeah, it does look cool. Now that I think about it, it does look like the stuff that grows on moss balls. It stays short and I have critters that graze on it..

another shot of some of my pellia. I love these things I think they are one of the coolest looking mosses out there. It reminds me so much of seaweed.

So I've been experimenting with land mosses. I found these two varieties in the back yard and stuck them in a fishless planted tank. Its been 3 weeks and they seem to be doing well and not melting but growing and pearling like mad.

Can Anyone identify them?

*** Disclaimer

just make sure you soak any land mosses for a while and dont place them in your fish tanks unless you are confident all the potential chemicals are gone.
