2 batches of cichlid babies!
Convinced my roommate to have an african cichlid tank. I already have 5 tanks, 4 that are tropical and 1 african cichlid. Both him and I have picked out "males" for his cichlid tank and have gotten a good variety in the 50 gallon tank. However a few months ago I discovered that one of the cichlids was holding. I was excited and this is his first real tank other than goldfish as a kid. She ended up being too stressed and lost the eggs, she ended up holding about a month later and lost those as well, 8 weeks ago she was holding again. We this time were able to catch her and move her into her own tank where she held the batch. 4 weeks after we first noticed her holding he attempted to strip them. Successfully! She released 20 babies. Only two have died since. They have been getting live brine shrimp and thriving well and starting to get markings.
Flash forward to tonight: He was watching his tank and said that "Kenny" a Kenyi is holding. I had looked in there previously and "kenny" wasn't holding anything and was being just as dominant as the other males in the tank. But sure enough. She was definitely cycling eggs. I am super excited about this because this is the only fish in the tank I asked for to be in there. And sure enough it's a female and has eggs. We set up her own tank and successfully moved her tonight so I can't wait to see what male fertilized. I am SOOO hoping it's the electric blue in the tank! Those would be some good looking fish. No matter which adult they came out to look like.
I was able to get some pictures and a video. Here are they are!

Thank you. I give some credit to Ken's Fish food. He has had it most of his life. I have had him for about 3 years and he wasn't full grown when I got him. So he was still a juvenile.
