Need color
So my day began with talking to my wife about moving my gold sev out of the 210g and into the new 56g column as the main show fish. She then replied that 'he is the only color in the tank, all the other fish are grey.'
I tried to explain that as they mature they would develop more color.... but I do see her point. She misses the old Midas we used to have. So Im trying to figure out what I should do. Easy color would be another midas, but no one has had them in stock and I would like a true midas not a mixed one with RD in it. I also dont want a RD, just dont like their body shape as much. Its difficult to have someone who does jack with the tank but has to have an opinion because its in her living room.
So I need ideas, If you look at my signature you see what I am working with so far. The dominate bifa will be stunning as it matures so I do see a "in your face" moment with the wife. But what else in a Central or South American cichlids will give that color, that will make the wife happy? Love to hear your ideas...
Also have to say NO hybrids (Blood Parrots, flowerhorns), and NO, Im not switching to Africans! Also salt water is out of the question.
Looking forward to your ideas....

Re: Need color
Both good choices but as juvenile fish not that impressive. Cant get my wife to understand that. My Bifa already has its colors coming in a 4" that would rival any syn at that size. The bocourti does have a nice mustard yellowish color when young but I really like the personality of my pearsei better.
Also in my stock is my freddy who should color up nicely with yellow as he gets older....
Again I see an 'in you face' moment when these fish get bigger. But right now she is right, they do lack that pop of color.

I love how the female Festae look for sure, but they are not really the best of 'community' fish are they?

Re: Need color
With all that my wife says about 'color', she also wanted me to keep the big 12" pleco from the 56g that I purchased. Talk about no color!

They are fine when enough room is given. If you dont give her a male.

How about albino bristlenose, or a chocolate pleco?

Re: Need color
NO parrots, except my 'true' parrot!
I do want to find a pleco still for my big tank. I would love to find an albino gibby which would also get some size on it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: Need color
well.. I still think an EBJD is a fragile fish until they get past 3 inches, but they look stunning even when they are small.

Re: Need color
Get a few of these rocks for the tank. Called Natural Labradorite. You can find a bunch of them on Ebay.

Re: Need color
Currently 'Out of stock' and 29.99 for a pelco + shipping. I could get something fancy for that price like a royal.
I do like EBJD but I find most are hard to judge if they will turn out good. Ive seen many beaked faced ones.
