if i went lake diving

if i went and dove in lakes for large pieces of wood could i sanitize it for my tanks.i know i could get the wood but will it survive in the tanks

The wood sold in stores is just wood. But you get it dried so the stuff is dead already. Look for a piece that is structurally sound not rotting to the point of falling apart. Pressure wash the gunk off it, boil it or salt water brine it.
