New Tanks Empty New Tanks

I picked up a couple of 5.5 gallon fish tanks today. I was going to buy the $10 10 gallon ones from Petco, but they were 1/2" too tall for the space I have (I brought a measuring tape). I also bought glass versa-tops and sand. I'm going to mix a bag of black with a handful or two of the gray for added texture. For filtration, I'm going to use a couple of air driven sponge filters. I haven't decided what I'll do for lighting yet, but I'm thinking the low cost shop lamp method. Another option is to buy one more tank/top and use a 48" strip light. Anyway, I'm going to make both planted and one will be a shrimp tank. I'm going to use guppies to cycle the tanks and then throw them in my 29 gallon tank.

My reservation with LEDs is that I keep hearing people talk about theirs going out. They say the replacement bulbs are really expensive. Some even had to replace the whole lighting system.

i feel the same way, easier to replace a light bulb than a entire led fixture
