Give me you 2 cents!

so im doin the dive tht hopefully will change my fish keepin experience for life... Tell me all your Tips, Hints, Tricks, and Secrets to keeping a saltwater tank please im startin slow with it but i wanna know more before i continue =-)
I am Still Adding more Rocks to it and It will Be a Reef Tank =-)

I don't know much about saltwater yet but that scotch is good stuff. lol.

So I have had my tank running now for a while and came across something I thought shouldn't happen.. my yellow watchman goby and my yellow clown goby choose to hang together a lot... No aggression ever, not even when food is involved. This is them chillan right after I fed the tank.

I have some questions though:
What's the best way to get my corals to grow a lil faster they are nothing special.. I have as shown

Also on this rock I have a grey slime looking growth that is slowly gettin larger...

corals take quite a long time to propagate. also trying such a small setup is probably not prefered... its hard to keep tank temp stable.. and thats gonna be your hardest part.. also your new fish appear to have ich... id just let things settle a bit long before you go adding anything else. its starting to look good tho.

Hi. How is your tank coming along? How are your fish doing? I think its great that they hang out together. I am wondering though if they are still showing signs of ick or if it was just the picture.

So I haven't been on here in a while but my tank is doin great my condy anenome got my yellow clown goby but my watchman is doin great and the tank is now from 16 ish gallons in a 29 and doin much better with.over double the light. I got rid of the condy and got a green bubble anenome the my percula(sp) clowns immediately paired up and started hosting in and I got a neon dottyback flying around through.everyone's business my corals are growing and looking great imo..

Now my questions what is this stuff... The lil pinkish things are really new and forked.. they just appeared recently after my pulsing xenia was put in.

The pink stuff is aiptasia. It has tremendous stinging capabilities. It reproduces very quickly, so the sooner you get rid of it, the better. Peppermint shrimp are often used to get rid of them. I can't say for sure if it works as I only had a 10 gallon saltwater tank, which was not suitable for a peppermint shrimp.

The green stuff looks like macro algae, which you could just pull off (with the power heads off) or leave.

see it all over my rock... makes me sad every day.. but thts only place it is now =-)

What do you mean by "fork?" Cleaner shrimp don't eat aiptasia, so they're worthless for that. I've heard of people passing a peppermint shrimp around, letting it eat all the aiptasia and then giving it to another person who does the same. I've also heard of injecting them individually with kalkwasser. Good luck with whatever you choose. If they don't appear to be stinging your coral, you could also just leave them. I only had a few in my tank, so I left them (after numerous attempts to kill them).

By Fork i mean its got more than one head off of one stem.. it splits.. not like an anenome does..
and I chose a cleaner shrimp because I like him.. he had attitude unlike all the other shrimp i saw =-)
I have tried to kill them by calcium burning them with something idk the name off the top of my head sry to say.. but my friend (also has a huge aiptasia problem) is using Aiptasia X and it seems to be working nicely =-) im not to bothered atm as they fill in where my corals havent grown yet >.>

when it splits its starting to reproduce. i know somebody more knowledgeable will chime in anytime.. but i do know u can get a chemical that will kill that stuff. also a DIY remedy ive heard of works well. u just spot treatment right at the source. no idea what its made of but some research online should work out for you. just get rid of that stuff asap or it can become a huge problem.

Aiptasia doesnt split or "fork" as you say. They are a pest anemone. When they feel threatened they will expell spores that reproduce. They reproduce extremely fast and will kill coral and fish.
I have used Aiptasia X with good results. I have also used pepermint shrimp with good results. Your tank is too small for aiptasia eating fish such as file fish and copperband butterfly.
There is also an invert called Bergia Nudibranch. They will eat aiptasia and can get into the small areas that fish and shrimp can not get into to eat every last bit of them.

If it is only on the one rock...I would remove it. Let it soak in a kalkwasser/fresh water mix for 24 hours, then fresh water rinse it and bake it till it is comepletely dry. Let it soak in ro/di water for a week or so, rinse it real well and then put it back in the tank. Keep a good eye on it because they can still come back.


I believe there is a local breader, but not sure of who it is at the moment.

The Green stuff is definately a macro algae. Cant tell what type it is form the picture. Is it a smooth stem or is it feathery? I looks like it might be evasive. You may want to remove it too.

I think I found out what your macro algae is. It is called Green Gracilaria. It is actually a good macro algae.

I found out what the orange things are too

They are strawberry anemones

Only bad things happen quickly especially in a small tank the bigger the better.
